Sons of the Forest is creepy enough in the daytime, but when it’s dark, it can be downright deadly. Of course, torches, lighters, and flashlights can illuminate the way. But those are quite obvious, right? When stealth is needed, Night Vision Goggles are perfect. The only thing is, in Sons of the Forest, you can only find and loot the Night Vision Goggles one time, and their location has bounced around a couple of times already.

As we mentioned, the Night Vision Goggles just can’t seem to stay in one place in Sons of the Forest. They’re still in the Cultist Cave. However, they’re now in a different location within the cave. So, let’s track them down before another update moves them around again:

  1. Head to the entrance of the Cultist Lake Cave on the west side of the map. It’s the quickest route to the Night Vision Goggles.
  2. With a Rebreather, dive underwater and swim for a brief period before resurfacing in a new section of the cave.
  3. Go through the opening with the hanging crosses and take the slide down.
  4. Follow the lifejackets to reach the area where you’ll exit the water.
  5. Search for the cave painting and follow the path to the left of it.
  6. Follow the hanging skeletons until you see a glowing red light. Take the red light path.
  7. Walk through the tunnel toward the shining white light.
  8. Crouch through the rest of the tunnel until you can stand and find the Night Vision Goggles on a dead soldier hanging on the wall.

If you do not see the Night Vision Goggles on the dead soldier, then you have already looted them in Sons of the Forest perhaps in an earlier version. Remember: you can only loot the Goggles once.

How To Use the Goggles

Night Vision Goggles are simple to use. Equip them in the inventory, and from there, you can just toggle them on and off using the “L” key by default. Don’t leave them on all the time though. Not unless you’re swimming in an endless supply of batteries.

Night Vision Goggles are great when exploring any cave in Sons of the Forest. They provide just the right amount of visuals so you can see anything coming from traps to enemies. Of course, you don’t want to use them outside in the daytime as your vision may very well be restricted instead.

Sons of the Forest is available on PC.
