After a rough year for Lord of the Rings fans, Return to Moria has soared in to save us. The game has been a smash hit thus far, breathing some much-needed life into the franchise. Unfortunately, Return to Moria isn’t always great at explaining its mechanics. One such mechanic is the process of obtaining Orc Keys. Read on to learn where to find and what to do with Orc Keys in Return to Moria.

If you are trying to figure out how to open those Orkish Chests at the center of enemy outposts, you’ve come to the right place. These chests require the aforementioned Orc Key to unlock and are impossible to open otherwise.

The process of obtaining a key is fairly straightforward. After defeating any enemies in the area, search around for a large wooden totem. The totem will have a red flag pinned to the front and is typically near the center of the encampment. Bust out your trusty weapon or pickaxe and destroy the totem to receive an Orc Key.

Typically, doing all this to unlock the Orcish Chests is well worth your time. These chests can contain anything from meat and gold to the incredibly valuable Black Diamonds! If you are lucky enough to find a Black Diamond, we highly recommend saving them. Eventually, there will come a time when 15 of them will be necessary to progress.

Furthermore, what you find in the chests will change as you progress throughout the game. The deeper you go, the better the loot. Do note that Orkish chests do not respawn, so be wise with how you use your findings. Even still, destroying the totem is important as it prevents enemies from respawning there in the future.

Finding those Orc Keys is vital to the progression in Return to Moria. Without them, you will be stuck with sub-par equipment for the majority of the game. If you’re looking to find tons of Orkish Chests without exerting too much energy, head over to the Elven Quarters. Pound for pound, that area has the most early-game chests available.
