Like most crafting-based games, My Time at Sandrock has no shortage of materials for players to discover and collect. Quartz is one of the over one hundred raw materials in the game, discoverable early in the game but mostly becoming useful later on. Quartz is possibly one of the easiest materials to come across, since it boasts a wide variety of sources. Once you’ve discovered Quartz, you’ll also find that it can be put toward a variety of uses.

Like many early-game resources, the simplest way to find Quartz is by mining it in the wild. Quartz can be mined using a Pickhammer to break Gravel and Raw Materials in the Eufaula Desert. If you’ve discovered the Gecko Station ruins, Quartz can also be found in rocky areas inside the ruins.

If you run into monsters while exploring the desert, don’t worry – they can give you Quartz as well. Quartz can drop from Rocket Roosters, Frightened Rocket Roosters, or their higher-level counterparts, Cock-a-doodle Doom.

All three enemies have around a 17% chance to drop Quartz.

Getting Quartz from an Ore Refinery

If the game’s drop rates aren’t being kind to you, you can also use an Ore Refinery to get Quartz. It’s a little hard to make an Ore Refinery until you’re further along in My Time at Sandrock, but it’s an invaluable machine.

After you’ve made the Ore Refinery and placed it in your workshop, you can have a high chance of getting Quartz by putting in 10x Stone, 10x Copper Ore, 10x Tin Ore, or 10x Iron Ore. All of these processes take one in-game hour to complete, and most of them guarantee at least one Quartz.

Where to Buy Quartz in Sandrock

If you’re not up to exploring the desert and you don’t have an Ore Refinery, then there are still two ways to get Quartz in My Time at Sandrock. Two shops in town sell Quartz, with varying currency streams and even varying prices depending on your relationships with certain characters.

If you’re looking to buy Quartz, you have two options:

  • Buy Quartz from Amirah at the Ceramic Gate

Amirah’s shop, the Ceramic Gate, sells Quartz for around 16 Gol. Prices may vary if you have a relationship with Amirah, and she only has 10 in stock.

  • Buy Quartz from Justice at the Civil Corps Store

You can buy Quartz from the Civil Corps Store, but rather than charging Gol, they charge Ruins Tokens. This means that you’ll need to brave some Hazardous Ruins to afford the Quartz here, but they have the advantage of a larger stock.

Exchange Ruins Tokens for Quartz at the Civil Corps Store

It’s a good thing Quartz is so widespread because it’s used for various crafting recipes in My Time at Sandrock. At the Worktable, Quartz is needed to craft the Stone Spear and the Bird Swing. The Assembly Station needs Quartz to build a Furnace, while the Furnace needs Quartz to make Tempered Glass. The Jewelry Machine needs Quartz to make a Bone Ring and Wind Chimes.

If you choose to put Quartz back into the Ore Refinery, you’ve got a good chance of scoring some good materials. Putting 1x Quartz into the Ore Refinery has an 80% chance of outputting Bloodstone, a 67% chance of Lapis Lazuli, a 40% chance of Fluorite, and a 25% chance of Rosestone.
