In order to get Rakshasa’s armor set and Rakshasa’s Great Katana in Elden Ring, you’ll first need to reach and defeat Rakshasa himself. That’s a journey in and of itself, so be prepared. We’re heading straight into Scadu Altus through the Shadow Keep, then journeying further south. When you finally reach Rakshasa, you’ll be just below the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Pack some snacks because we’re on our way to Scadu Altus first!
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree: How to Get to Scadu Altus
Starting from the Main Gate Plaza site of grace in Shadow Keep—where you fight and defeat the Golden Hippopotamus—enter the large doorway nearby and follow the wooden stairs up until they stop. Don’t enter any other rooms other than the dining room at the top; the wooden steps will take you straight to the ramparts atop the castle.
Now, on the ramparts, you’re going to see a bridge that’s guarded by a Fire Knight. Run past the bridge (the Fire Knight will be on your left) and hug the railing until you come to a gap with a ladder. Slide to the bottom, then enter the hidden room under the first waterfall to reveal another ladder to slide down.
The next room seems like a dead end, with nothing but a painting (albeit beautiful). Give the wall on your right a whack, the one between two wooden barrels. Oh, a hidden room! There’s only one path, so follow it through to the end to find a coffin.
Hop inside and it’ll take you straight down to the Castle Watering Hole site of grace but more importantly, you’re now in Scadu Altus.
How to Find Rakshasa in the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum
With that out of the way, we can finally make our way to Rakshasa, who’s hanging out in the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum. It’s a small dungeon, and yes, you’ll have to defeat him if you want the Rakshasa armor set and Rakshasa’s Great Katana in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
So, hop on your horse and start following the river south until you come to the first waterfall, ignoring the Furnace Golem along the way. You’ll see a narrow cliff to your left that’ll take you further south, along with the Recluses’ River Upstream site of grace. Hop back on Torrent and continue following the river downstream.
Now, on your way you’ll start to see the cliffs diverge into a couple different directions. As soon as you see the ghostly headstones on your left, follow the cliff on the right to reach a dead-end. Look down and you’ll see the Recluses’ River Downstream site of grace. Jump down, light the site of grace and get ready for the next hurdle.
Remember those ghostly headstones? If you look in the direction of where you just came, you’ll see a gap you can ride through that leads you straight back to the headstones. If this is your first time here, you’ll also notice a seemingly lonely cliff below with an item. That’s the Dryleaf Seal and you can grab it on your way because you’ll have to drop down to that cliff, anyway.
Look down and you’ll see more cliffs to safely drop down to, all the way to the river below. Now, the river splits into two directions: one that leads southwest and another that leads northeast, more or less.
Follow the river northeast and you’ll see the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum up ahead, next to a waterfall. If you see slime creatures, you’re heading in the right direction.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree: How to Beat Rakshasa
Now for the hard part: defeating Rakshasa. He is a master of combat, much like the Blackgaol Knight and he is relentless. Luckily, Rakshasa doesn’t have any fancy magic up his sleeve, other than being an aggressive swordsman. It really comes down to patience and timing.
Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind when fighting Rakshasa in Elden Ring:
- Ash of War: Giant Hunt is fantastic against Rakshasa, given that it can interrupt his attacks and launch him into the air.
- After Rakshasa’s first swing, there’s a small window of opportunity. Attack him then to disrupt his chain.
- Another opportunity is when Rakshasa tries to heal.
- Attacking Rakshasa during his jump attack will stagger him.
- Most of Rakshasa’s attacks can be evaded by dodging left and right, especially when he thrusts his great katana.
- If you’re good at parrying, this fight will be easy.
When Rakshasa is (finally) defeated in Elden Ring, he’ll drop Rakshasa’s Great Katana, along with his armor—well, now it’s your armor!
