While you can finish the game even if you make a few subpar deliveries, Sam’s reputation is always on the line. As you know, he connected all of the UCA in the first game, so it would be strange if he always delivered damaged cargo. In all seriousness, though, there are many porters out there who might want to look for the highest rank in Death Stranding 2, which is “S.” Since the game doesn’t really tell you how to get said grade, we’ve made a guide with a few tips to let you reach that coveted rank after every order.
S Rank Requirements

Once you complete the prologue and reach Ciudad Nudo del Norte, you’ll be able to take a new order that will show you its S Rank requirements. Remember that all orders have the requirements at the bottom left corner and highlighted in yellow. If you want to get the highest rank, you need to meet the conditions shown there. For instance, Main Order 3 tells you that the average content damage should be 5% or less, and the exceptional quantity target should be 2. If you meet those conditions, you’ll obtain S Rank.

While it isn’t an actual requirement, you can get more likes and increase your stats and rank further if you collect extra cargo on your way. For instance, in Main Order 2, you can find at least three lost items on the way, and delivering them will give you more likes. This is useful if you’re trying to obtain five stars on all facilities.
One last thing to keep in mind, you can get a trophy by obtaining an S Rank in some orders of Death Stranding 2. It is the Seasoned Porter Gold Trophy, and it requires the following:
- Complete 10 deliveries, 10 recoveries, and 10 elimination/destruction standard orders with an S rank in Casual difficulty or above.
So, if you want to achieve a 100% completionist rate, you should be careful with every order Sam takes.
