Do you want to know how to get seeds in Dwarf Fortress? Dwarf Fortress is a complex game with many hidden mechanics and resources. It can be tricky to figure out how to get the help you need, especially when getting seeds. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can go about getting seeds in Dwarf Fortress. This guide will tell you how to get seeds in Dwarf Fortress.

What are Seeds in Dwarf Fortress?

Dwarf Fortress is an addictive and highly detailed strategy game that captures many nuances not often found in video games. One of its most exciting features is its accurate rendition of the four seasons. Every season brings three consecutive months, each with particular names. Spring has Granite, Slate, and Felsite; Summer has Hematite, Malachite, and Galena; Autumn includes Limestone, Sandstone, and Timber; Winter is represented by Moonstone, Opal, and Obsidian.

To have a good harvest from seeds, you must ensure they are planted during the appropriate season. The game provides seeds to plant in each of these seasons, with different types of plants and trees available depending on the season.

Also, it would be best if you got seeds to harvest from wild plants. So before starting to gather seeds, make sure you have plenty of Bags to store them. You can find them at the Clothier’s Shop, in the Build menu under Workshop clothing and Leather.

You can get Seeds in Dwarf Fortress by Brewing drinks at a Still, Trade, processing plants at the farmer’s workshop, Letting the Dwarf eat uncooked plants or fruits, or Milling plants.

Brewing drinks at a Still:

Brewing drinks at a Still is one way to get Seeds in Dwarf Fortress. Once you brew beverages, you will get seeds as a by-product. Different drinks produce from other sources, so check the Crafting menu to see what kind of Seeds you will get from brewing a specific beverage.

Trade:

You can trade seeds from a trade representative. But he rarely visits. So make sure you buy the correct sources for the season.

Processing plants at the farmer’s workshop

To get seeds, you can process regular plants such as cotton or pigtails at the workshop. This way, you can get a variety of sources without having to trade.

Letting the Dwarf eat uncooked plants or fruits

This is not a very reliable source since these occasions are not predefined. However,  it is still possible for your Dwarf to get some Seeds randomly by eating uncooked plants or fruits.

Milling Plants

Dwarf Fortress is now available on PC via Steam and itch.io.
