Mutant in Warhammer 40K- Darktide
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

To unlock the Anointed Mendicant’s Vestments for the Zealot Preacher in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, Rejects must complete “Abhor the Mutant,” a Penance Achievement requiring players to “kill a Mutant with a melee attack while Dashing.” Those who have been playing the Preacher will know that “Dashing” refers to “Chastise the Wicked,” an ability unique to the class that causes users to aggressively charge at an enemy. This move bolsters Toughness and guarantees a critical strike. However, the main challenge with this Penance is not only the timing difficulty of executing a finishing blow on a Mutant but also the Penance’s in-game description, which has been confusing players.

Abhor the Mutant Achievement in Warhammer 40K Darktide

To unlock the Abhor the Mutant Penance in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, players are encouraged to refer to the instructions via the Steam Achievement list instead of the in-game description. The Steam Achievement reads, “As the Preacher, kill a charging Mutant with a melee attack while Dashing.”

By inspecting the Penance’s directions via the Steam Achievement’s explanation, Rejects can clearly see that both the Mutants and their Preachers must be charging at the same time, with the Zealot executing the killing blow. Similar to the “Not Even Close” Penance for Psykinetics and Pox Hounds, completing such a feat while the enemy target is moving is extremely challenging to pull off. However, there are a few tips that might help Preachers accomplish their goal and unlock the Anointed Mendicant’s Vestments.

First, YouTuber Noez states that players should first set their mission difficulty to Sedition or Uprising. Attempting to strike down a charging Mutant at any higher difficulty will be unnecessarily hard to achieve. Next, Noez suggests that using an axe will greatly increase Zealots’ chances of executing a killing blow on the Mutant, as the weapon has increased single-target damage compared to other armaments. Finally, Preachers should only attempt to Dash-kill Mutants that are charging at their teammates, not them. For instance, weaken the Mutant to bring its HP down and then wait until it charges at an ally. Quickly perform a flanking Chastise the Wicked to achieve the Abhor the Mutant Penance in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. Additionally, the Mutant does not need to be in motion but can be at the end of its charging animation when the killing blow is carried out.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
