World of Warcraft Classic‘s Season of Discovery has a lot of new puzzles to solve and secrets to find to earn runes for abilities never seen in the classic era of WoW before. With so many unknowns, it’s nice to get a hint occasionally to play around with the fresh class spells and roles. One hidden item, the Gnarled Harpoon, can be found by Hunters and Warriors in Darkshore and is used to help defeat a tough enemy named Paxnozz to earn a rune. Let’s break down how to find the Gnarled Harpoon in WoW SoD and where to utilize it.
Where to Find the Gnarled Harpoon in WoW SoD
Hunters and Warriors will want to discover the Gnarled Harpoon in WoW SoD relatively late in their journey to level 25. This is because the enemy you need to defeat with the item is a level 20 elite thresher named Paxnozz. You should be around level 20 before attempting this fight, but a party of slightly lower-level characters shouldn’t have any issues. Let’s discuss in detail the steps to earn your rune by using the Gnarled Harpoon.
- The Gnarled Harpoon is found in the eye of a giant turtle carcass on the northern beaches of Darkshore in Kalimdor at coordinates (44.9, 21.0.)
- Once looted, it can be thrown at the level 20 elite thresher, Paxnozz, from up to 40 yards away. It can be found at coordinates (47.8, 16.0.)
- Using the Gnarled Harpoon significantly lowers the enemy’s health and damage output.
- Simply kill Paxnozz after using the item, and he will drop the Rune of the Sniper for Hunters or the Rune of Quick Strike for Warriors.
Night Elf Hunters and Warriors will find the Gnarled Harpoon in WoW SoD the most useful. This is because Darkshore is part of their default leveling experience.
Rewards from Killing Paxnozz in WoW SoD
Using the Rune of the Sniper earned from the Gnarled Harpoon on a Hunter will give you the following passive to engrave on your pants slot.
- Your Shot abilities gain a 10% increased critical strike chance while you have not moved for the last 6 sec.
- NOTE: This rune can alternatively be looted from:
- Defias Scouts in Westfall
- Kackle in Loch Modan
- Horde: Purchase a Fishing Harpoon from Kilxx and use it on the Bruuz elite enemy, similar to Paxnozz.
Using the Rune of Quick Strike earned from the Gnarled Harpoon on a Warrior will give you the following active ability to engrave on your gloves slot.
- A reckless instant melee attack with your two-handed weapon dealing physical damage. This ability benefits from and triggers all effects associated with Heroic Strike.
- NOTE: This rune can alternatively be looted from:
- Kill Defias enemies in Westfall to get a Gillsbane mace, then use it to kill Murlocs to get the Soul of the Sea. Finally, interact with a statue and kill the enemy.
- Kill Troggs in Loch Modan for a Cracked Skull-Shaped Geode. Get hit by a Stonesplinter Skullthumper’s stun afterward.
- Horde: Purchase a Fishing Harpoon from Kilxx and use it on the Bruuz elite enemy, similar to Paxnozz.
Hunters and Warriors are the only ones able to use the Gnarled Harpoon in WoW SoD. However, there are still plenty of secrets to find for many of the other classes. Some runes even allow classes such as Warlock to tank or Mages to heal.
