The Hylian Shield is the most iconic shield from The Legend of Zelda. With that in mind, it is no surprise that it would return in Tears of the Kingdom as the strongest shield in the game. With so many other returning items, including the Hero of Time set that the Hylian Shield is best recognized alongside, it was a given. We don’t really recommend shield surfing with it, but here is how to get the Hylian Shield in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to find the Hylian Shield in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
The Hylian Shield in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom can be grabbed from Hyrule Castle anytime. If you played Breath of the Wild, you will recognize the location you find it as a spot where there was a shrine in that old game. Here, it is a little different.
To get the Hylian Shield, make your way to the northern side of Hyrule Castle. In the water, there is a cave system near the docks. You can either swim in here if you have the stamina or make a raft to get in.
Once you are in, make your way to the back of the room and climb the stairs. Be ready for a fight with a group of Gloom Spawn, followed by an encounter with Phantom Ganondorf. We recommend fighting the hands with Bomb Flower arrows until they die and then hit Ganondorf with your favorite melee weapon. You can completely run past them if you want, but it’s better to eliminate them.
Just past the spot where the Gloom Spawn appeared, there is an open area with some lit fires and a smoldering brazier. All you need to do is set that on fire. You can knock an arrow in a bow, aim into a fire and shoot it at the brazier, or use any other fire item you have. Once the brazier is lit, a treasure chest will appear. This is where to find the Hylian Shield in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
The Hylian Shield is the strongest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with a 90 rating. However, it will still break after a while when it takes damage from blocking attacks or shield surfing. If it breaks, you must have unlocked Cece’s Shop in Hateno Village by completing the Mayoral Election side adventure and spending a hefty 3,000 Rupees to buy it back.
