Mechanic’s Best Friend is one of the many unique Legendary gear that you can find in the game. While the named Pipe Wrench is not particularly great since you can’t reroll perks, it’s still useful for a PvE stealth build. The one-handed melee weapon is fast and lets you dodge enemies’ attacks in quick succession. Locating the Plan for Mechanics Best Friend in Fallout 76 shouldn’t be too hard, but it might cost you quite a bit of a fortune.

The Mechanics Best Friend can be obtained by completing Daily Ops, purchasing one from Minerva the Gold Bullion vendor, or trading with a player vendor. If you plan on buying the Plan from Minerva, you’ll need to trade it for 1,000 Gold Bullion.

Minerva’s location rotates between four areas:

  • Foundation.
  • Fort Atlas.
  • The Crater.
  • The Whitespring Resort.

At the time of writing though, you should be able to find her peddling her wares at the Foundation. It’s not far from Spruce Knob, you can’t miss it.

Fallout 76: Nuclear Winter update introduced the one-handed weapon as a reward from the Survival Mode. The tradeable Legacy Survival version drops from completing the “Destroy different kinds of robots” Weekly Challenge that runs from July 2 to 8, 2019. As its name suggests, your objective is to destroy an Assaultron, Protectron, Sentry Bot, and a Mr. Handy or Mr. Gutsy.

Obtain the Daily Op Plan and the weapon can be crafted using the following requirements and recipe:

  • Makeshift Warrior Level 2.
  • Adhesive x2.
  • Lead x2.
  • Screw x2.
  • Steel x8.

Adhesive can be easily made by scrapping glue-related junk items, such as Bulk Adhesive, Duct Tape, and Glue. The best way to hoard them is by crafting Vegetable Starch at a Cooking Station and scrapping them. Lead and Steel come from scrapping various metal junk items or are easily found throughout Appalachia. Screws, too, can be obtained from scrapping junks, world loot, or from defeating Wendigo.

Meanwhile, to level up your Mechanics Best Friend, you’ll need these Fallout 76 materials:

  • Legendary Module x2
  • Gear.
  • Oil.
  • Steel.
