There are a ton of armor sets in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Some preserve heat, dissipate the cold, and even help Link climbing walls. Many of these require extensive exploration to find, though, so what about the early game? That’s where the Royal Guard Armor set comes in. It may not have the absolute best defense in the game, but it’s still excellent for the early game. Let’s go over how to get the Royal Guard Boots in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Royal Guard Armor Location in Tears of the Kingdom

When it comes to getting your hands on the Royal Guard Armor set in Tears of the Kingdom, it’s not that hard. You just need to be able to navigate Hyrule Castle, as it’s various pieces are scattered around its confines. While it may take some time to reach, the bounty from looting the entire place is well worth it. You may even have the opportunity to get some royal guard weapons, substantial swords, and shields that you can use to create some great early-game weapons.

Besides going for the Royal Guard Boots in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, visiting Hyrule Castle as soon as you can is a great way to find superior armor to that which is found in Hyrule Field. To get to Hyrule Castle, you don’t actually need to expand your stamina wheel, either. Lots of places in the game are accessible, even without getting any more slices added to your stamina. However, it can help to prepare some stamina-boosting meals, or some stamina-boosting elixirs before you set off. Cooking some recipes or elixirs that restore your stamina wheel by at least half will help ensure that you make it to Hyrule Castle without falling.
How To Find The Royal Guard Boots

The Royal Guard Armor set, unfortunately, has no base special effects. Each piece is simply armor, with no buffs or debuffs to help make Link’s life easier. However, you can still upgrade the armor itself by using the Great Fairy Fountain. Additionally, if you have all three pieces of armor you can get a Charge Attack Stamina Up bonus. Just getting the Royal Guard Boots in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t provide this buff, but it makes for great armor.
That means every time you charge up an attack, the time it takes to reach full charge is smaller than at the standard. This is great for the early game if you have no other armor with bonuses. The upgrade requirements at the Great Fairy Fountain for the Royal Guard Armor are the following:
- 1 star: Upgrades to 6 defense. Requires 3 Boss Bokoblin Horns, 3 Bokoblin Guts, and 10 Rupees.
- 2 star: Upgrades to 10 defense. Requires 3 Blue Boss Bokoblin horns, 3 Boss Bokoblin Guts, and 50 Rupees.
- 3 star: Upgrades to 15 defense. Requires 3 Black Boss Bokoblin Horns, 3 Hinox Guts, and 200 Rupees.
- 4 star: Upgrades to 24 defense. Requires 3 Silver Boss Bokoblin Horns, 3 Molduga Guts, 3 Gleeok Guts, and 500 Rupees.
To find the Royal Guard Boots in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to navigate toward Hyrule Castle. The Boots themselves are located in the King’s Study, which is a hidden room within Hyrule Castle. Once you find the shrine, jump down from the platform and enter the stairway that leads to a basic library. In the library, there should be one bookcase that is movable.
Use Ultrahand to move the bookcase aside. This leads to a doorway, which is the King’s Study. There you can find the Royal Guard Boots, as well as a few swords and shields. If you’re still quite early into your playthrough, these items will likely be more powerful than anything you already have.
