This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

Eevee is a normal-type Pokémon that is part of the first generation and is famous for having up to eight evolutions. When Pokemon Go came out, a secret trick to get Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon became popular overnight. However, with the arrival of Generation 2 to the game and the inclusion of Umbreon and Espeon, and with these two simple tricks, you will know how to get Umbreon in Pokemon Go.

[August 25 Update – Clarified information and updated links]

Trick 1: How to Get Umbreon in Pokemon Go

The first and easiest way to get Umbreon in Pokemon Go is to change Evee’s name. Eevee randomly evolves into either Umbreon or Espeon after having 25 candies. Yet, you can perform a straightforward trick to get Umbreon. To get Umbreon, change the name of your Eevee to Tamao.

Remember that you need to restart the app once you have changed the name. After that, restart it and give the candies to your Eevee for the trick to take effect.

This trick pays homage to the episode in which Ash met the Eevee brothers.

Trick 2: Plan B to Get Umbreon in Pokemon Go

How to Get Umbreon in Pokemon Go

If you want to get Umbreon in Pokemon Go but don’t want to rename your Evee, make sure you feed it at night. This is a method that not many know about, but also very simple. To get it done, you need to use the Adventures with your Companion feature and follow these steps:

  1. Select your Eevee and add it as a Pokémon Companion.
  2. Walk at least 10 kilometers with your Eevee as a partner.
  3. Then, give it the 25 candies needed for the evolution to take place.

Note that depending on the time of day you give it the candy, Eevee will evolve into Umbreon or Espeon. If you evolve it during the night, you will get Umbreon.

The second trick is a reference to “The tea ceremony,” in which there are two kimono girls who have these Pokémon.

This method doesn’t guarantee 100% that Eevee will evolve into Umbreon in Pokemon Go. Still, the probabilities will be very high if you do it this way. This is only valid for the first time you do it. The rest of the time, the evolution of Eevee will always be a matter of randomness.
