This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Learning how to make a furnace in Terraria can be a tricky task when you first start up the game. While the resources and actions are relatively simple, the game gives you little to no explanation on how to do it or what items you will need prior. Additionally, once you have the required ingredients, you can only view the recipes for an item in the crafting menu, so the game is very little help. However, with some guidance and knowledge-sharing, you’ll be on your way to making a furnace in Terraria in no time.

Crafting a furnace in Terraria is simple, and you can easily do it on your first day in a new world. However, you must ensure you have the right resources before beginning. You only need three items to craft a furnace, but you must prepare one of them beforehand.

  • 20x Stone Blocks
    • You can mine Stone Blocks using your pickaxe
  • 4x Wood
    • Obtained by breaking trees with your axe
  • 3x Torch
    • Crafted using Wood and Gel
    • You can get Gel by attacking slimes with your sword

Once you’ve got all your items together, head over to a Crafting Bench, which you should have already placed in the world somewhere and open up your crafting menu. Now, it’s time to put it all together. Scroll down to the Furnace option and double-click to make a furnace in Terraria.

Now, there is an option for you to purchase a furnace in Terraria rather than crafting one. You can do this by heading into the jungle biome and searching for the Merchant. He will not have a furnace in stock if he appears anywhere other than the jungle.

Using a furnace is a quick and easy task. The furnace can smelt down ores that you pick up in your travels around the world. Often, you will pick up different types of ore when you are mining, and you’ll find that you cannot use them in their raw state. Making a furnace in Terraria is the solution.

Approach the furnace with raw ores in your inventory to get started. Once you are standing near the furnace, open up your crafting menu. Now, rather than seeing various items that you can craft, you will see a drop-down menu full of metal bars that you can craft. These will then assist with crafting other things as you progress through the game.

Terraria is now available on PC, mobile devices, Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation consoles.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
