Starfieldย is home to a wide variety of weapons that help you take down any threatening enemies. The one constant on everyย planetย is that there’s something to fight or a group of people that want you gone. Reaching theย max level cap with nothing but pacifism will be a challenge, with most players preferring to use weapons. But at some point, you might feel your weapons need an improvement. Buying a better weapon is too expensive, and you can’t keep hoping for legendary drops. Weapon mods are a good compromise, letting you customize your armament to suit your needs. Here’s how to mod weapons in Starfieldย and what the mods require.

To mod weapons inย Starfield, you must find a Weapons Workbench. These can be found in every star system, usually in weapon stores but also in enemy locations. If you have recently purchased a weapon, chances are that the store also has a Weapons Workbench ready to modify your new toy. This doesn’t cover weapons that already have mods, which you can sometimes loot from defeated enemies.

When interacting with a Weapons Workbench, you can select the weapon you want to modify. Even if a weapon already has pre-existing mods, you can add mods or change them out. After you choose the gun you wish to modify, you can pick the specific weapon part you want to alter. Once you select a part, you get a list of all the mods that are applicable to that weapon’s slot.

All weapons can only have one mod of a type equipped at once, meaning you can’t have a rifle with two muzzles. However, you can create multiple weapon mods inย Starfieldย and switch them out depending on the circumstances. Once you create a mod, you can equip and unequip it, putting it on other guns if you think it’s a better fit.

It’s important to read the weapon mod effect before installing it, as it might not work the way you envision. For example, adding a silencer to a rifle will inhibit another aspect of ranged combat. It’s up to you to decide if the mod is worth installing.ย

Don’t be discouraged if a mod doesn’t work as intended because you can always save it for later. But now that you know how to mod weapons inย Starfield, your combat proficiency will drastically improve.
