With the Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 update, there has been a new set of content for the MWZ game mode. The Bad Signal MW3 Zombies mission adds a new level of threat zone to the game, starting Act IV of the MWZ story. This is, in fact, a Dark Aether rift, where you can enter another realm and even hear Samantha Maxis inside! But after the mission, the Dark Aether rift will be gone, and you’ll have to do an easter egg to open it later in MWZ. You’ll need to find a Surveillance Camera, a Locked Diary, a Dog Collar, and a Pill Bottle to enter the MWZ Dark Aether rift and the threat level 4 zone in MWZ. But Where Do You Find Them?
Dark Aether Rift Easter Egg Guide in MWZ
Once you deploy in the Urzikestan Zombies map, you’ll see a new sign on your tac map. It looks like the letter A, which is assumed to be from the word “Aether.” And if you go to that location, you’ll find four different podiums. These are the seals that you get to encounter and close in the Bad Signal mission, and each one of them requires an ultra-rarity item. They are:
- Locked Diary
- Surveillance Camera
- Pill Bottle
- Dog Collar
These items have random names but are probably somehow connected to the story. However, there are clues on where to find them! So let’s dive into details and do the Dark Aether rift easter egg in MWZ. Remember: Exfil with each item, and store them in your inventory until you have all four.
Where To Find The Locked Diary in MWZ?
The Locked Diary is your ultimate prize for completing the Bad Signal mission in MWZ. This mission tasks you with entering a pre-opened Dark Aether rift and fighting a creature called the Gorm’Gant after closing four seals. After defeating Gorm’Gant, you’ll find a reward rift with the Locked Diary inside in MWZ. Put it in your backpack, and exfil with it.
Where To Find The Surveillance Camera in MWZ?
To find the Surveillance Camera in MWZ, you need to equip the Dead Wire ammo mod on one of your weapons. Then, go after one of the Harvester Orbs you could find on the map and shoot it with that weapon. If you have the ammo mod, then the Orb will turn yellow after hitting it once. Take it down like an ordinary Aether Orb, and it’ll drop an epic rarity Surveillance Camera for you.
Now we need an ultra rarity Surveillance Camera item for the Dark Aether rift easter egg to work in MWZ. To find that, equip the epic one in your backpack and enter one of the random rifts that’ll redeploy you on the map. When you do so, you’ll find another yellow rift in the air, and by entering it, a purple Big Game Bounty contract will be marked on your map. Pick it, defeat the bounty, and the ultra-rarity Surveillance Camera is yours in MWZ.
Where To Find The Pill Bottle in MWZ?
The third item for doing the Dark Aether rift easter egg in MWZ is the Pill Bottle. For this one, you’ll need to equip the Brain Rot ammo mod on your weapon and then find an Aether Nest. Once you’re inside the nest, shoot one of the glowing yellow eyes once, and it’ll turn green. Now get near it, and hold the interact button to open the toxic cyst.
Once you cleanse the Aether Nest, the Pill Bottle item will be where you did the interaction. Pick it, and enter one of the rifts in the game to redeploy on the map. Once you do so, there’ll be a green rift in the sky, which you have to enter. This is the same drill as the previous one, where another Big Game Bounty will be marked on your map, and upon completing it, you’ll be granted the ultra-rarity Pill Bottle in MWZ.
Where To Find The Dog Collar in MWZ?
You need to find the Dog Collar for the last Dark Aether rift easter egg in MWZ. To achieve this item, simply deposit a Molotov and a Chunk of Meat in one of the dog houses on the map to spawn an enemy hellhound, and then get an epic rarity dog collar after killing it.
Same drill: go to an Aether rift that redeploys you on the map, and this time, enter the red tear you see in the air in front of you. This will drop you on the level 3 threat zone and mark a Big Game Bounty contract there. So before picking the contract, gear up and bring all your teammates with you. Once you kill the bounty, the ultra-rarity Dog Collar is yours in MWZ.
Where To Open The Dark Aether Rift in MWZ
Once you have all the items in your inventory, head over to the marked location you see in the image above. Then, place the objects on the four podiums to complete the Dark Aether rift easter egg in MWZ. This will spawn a Dark Aether portal for you, but it’ll also drop a Mega Abomination in front of you!
Once you kill the mega, it’ll drop an item called the Sigil. If you put this item on the Dark Aether rift, it’ll open and teleport you to the level 4 threat zone in MWZ. Remember that every time you want to enter this area, you’ll need to spend a Sigil. These items can be easily found by completing level 3 threat zone contracts.
