Fortnite’s fan-favorite Refer-a-Friend program was available until January 09, 2024, at 11:59 AM ET. You could bring new friends into the Fortnite fold and have both of you earn awesome rewards, including the new Redcap Outfit. Since this is a limited-time event, it is important to know how it works, even if it isn’t up right now. Even if, at the time of writing this, the program isn’t available, we’ll still teach you how to refer a friend in Fortnite, so you can do it when the program returns in 2024 or beyond.

(Updated on August 2, 2024 – Fact-checked, clarified the dates of the program, and updated the guide’s steps).

Steps to Refer a Friend in Fortnite

You can refer a friend by signing up from the Refer a Friend official Fortnite page. Once signed up, you can bring up to five friends to be your referees. For your friends to be referees for you, they must have played less than two hours of Fortnite in any playlist over the last 30 days, a brand new player to the game.

Once you have whoever you’d like to bring along, head in-game and complete a list of tasks alongside simply playing the game together. This will earn various rewards. The rewards will change depending on the current program. The last ones included the Redcap’s Revenge Spray, Wild Redcap’s Wrap, Portable Portobello Back Bling, Shiitake Slasher Pickaxe, and Redcap Outfit. If you want to make use of this program whenever it returns, here’s how to participate in it:

  1. Register on the Refer a Friend portal using your Epic account details.
  2. Use the portal to nominate up to five eligible friends to join you in Fortnite.
  3. Finish the objectives while in the game.

During Chapter 5, Season 3 of Fortnite, there isn’t any news of the Refer a Friend program returning in 2024. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Epic Games tends to enable it at certain times fo the year, so we might see it in the future. If so, prepare your friends to join you in this legendary battle royale.
