This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

When building a massive city in Cities: Skylines 2, there are many factors you need to consider, including pollution. Ground pollution, primarily generated from industry zones, if not appropriately addressed, will cause resident well-being, potentially causing health issues and general dissatisfaction. Also, ground pollution reduces the property value and impacts the overall profit of the city.

Removing industrial buildings from polluted areas, planting trees, using renewable energy sources, and implementing green policies are some of the suitable methods when it comes to managing ground pollution in Cities: Skylines 2.

However, one thing you need to understand is that it is similar to an actual city. The ground pollution will not be removed immediately once these methods are implemented. It will take some time to see noticeable results, and it will require consistent effort to maintain a pollution-free city. Below are the best methods to reduce ground pollution in Cities: Skylines 2.

Remove Industrial Buildings on Polluted Grounds and Reallocate Them

This is the most straightforward and standard method to remove ground pollution. However, this process needs a bit of proper planning to make sure it does not adversely affect the city’s economy. First, try to relocate to highly and vastly polluted areas. But ensure that new allocations do not cause high costs impacting the city economy.

Plant Trees Between Residential Areas and Industrial Zones

If you are facing difficulties in removing an industrial building immediately, this is the most cost-effective method you can use. Planting trees will reduce ground pollution. However, eventually, you will have to get a permanent solution, but this method will reduce and delay the impact until then.

Implement Advanced Pollution Management Policy

Once you reach Level 6, you can unlock this policy, and you must implement it in industrial districts. Once you implement it, you will see the ground pollution levels are gradually reducing to a certain level.

Replace Non-Renewable Energy Sources with Renewable Ones

Of course, at the beginning of the city development, Coal Plants will be the most cost-effective way to fulfill your city’s electricity needs. However, when the city grows and flourishes, these Coal Plants will impact the city’s air quality and attract ground pollution. Therefore, at one point, you will have to make decisions to replace them with renewable energy sources to make sure the city’s air and ground remain clean.

Allocate Commercial Buildings and Offices Between Residential Zones and Industrial Zones

This is a bit trickier but proper if you do not plan to reallocate your industrial zones immediately. Offices and commercial buildings will be less populated than residential areas, and most of the time, you will not get a lot of complaints about pollution from these areas.

Also, allocating some landfills in industrial zones may reduce ground pollution in Cities: Skylines 2. However, the truth is similar to an actual city: when your residential area grows, you need to take city industrial zones far away from them. Therefore, sooner or later, you will have to reallocate them when your city is growing.
