Because of the harrowing pain she had in her past, she assumed her current strong and fiery form. Karlach’s partner must be just as indestructible, determined, truthful, and heroic as her. If you wish to be in a relationship with her, you got a long way to go. This guide will walk you through how to romance Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Increasing Approval Rating for Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3
Securing the approval of your companion, siding with them in critical situations, and gaining their trust is very important to start a relationship with them. Your decisions in quests and your mutual dialogues with Karlach will significantly affect your approval rating.
Even your attitude in a random interaction can change Karlach’s perspective on you, for better or for worse. Therefore, if you want to start a romance with Karlach in BG3, you should treat her the way she likes and choose the options that might interest her.
The following may be helpful in increasing Karlach’s approval rating:
- Show daring moves alongside her by acting heroic.
- Choose options that glorify honor, dignity, and pride.
- Show interest and respect for the Tiefling heritage that Karlach belongs to.
- Always stand up against injustice and prevent the weak from being harmed.
- Prove to Karlach that you are a strong and vigorous fighter with your actions and impress her.
The following will make Karlach less interested in you:
- Showing cowardice and hypocrisy.

Romancing Karlach in BG3
If you followed our suggestions and somehow won Karlach’s approval, it doesn’t all end here. There are some things you have to do and choose in the story as well. You’ll need to pay attention to some actions that will attract Karlach’s attention in the game’s acts.
ACT I
Your chance to get close to Karlach starts after the “Save the Refugees” quest. To make Karlach happy and impress her, you’ll need to side with the Tieflings and defend them against Minthara and the goblins. Karlach will appreciate your protective attitude and will start to have feelings for you. Keep satisfying her with side quests and take her word for it.
To further strengthen your bond with Karlach, you will need to find an Infernal Iron for her. You can find it in the Gauntlet of Shar dungeon. Give the Infernal Iron to Dammon and this will make Karlach very pleased.

ACT II
Karlach has a condition that prevents her from being touched. You will get burned if you touch her because she is overheated, so there is always a distance between you. Once Karlach has an Infernal Iron, she can touch someone. You may try to give her a kiss. But this won’t take long and you’ll need to find more Infernal Irons to keep that going.
You may have to go on an adventure in Shadow-Cursed lands and seek them out. If you want to keep your relationship with Karlach fresh, you will need lots of Infernal Iron. Moreover, you constantly need to cool her off to get closer. You can use water or ice spells to lower her heat.
Keeping Dammon alive is also very essential. If Dammon dies, Karlach will be devastated and it will greatly affect your relationship with her. Dammon will guide you in your relationship with Karlach and you need to keep him alive in whatever it takes. Dammon claims that Karlach will die soon due to her overheat. There is no solution or cure for this in ACT II, but you can use various methods or go on adventures to heal Karlach in ACT III. We never want to lose Karlach!
