Football has a ton of incredibly important moves and gameplay sets that need to be adhered to if your team ever has a chance of winning. This is the same for your Madden 24 team, meaning that those same plays and moves are just as important. One of those plays, the run, is an incredibly important one to know if you ever plan on scoring. So, we wrote out exactly how to stop the run in Madden 24.
When to Stop The Run In Madden 24
(Updated on October 7, 2024 – updated links and format)
There are a few different types of run plays, so you’re going to want to think about how you approach stopping them. We outlined the four different ways you should be implementing how to stop a run whenever you can for the best results:
- Manually control a middle linebacker or a defensive end
- Manually controlling is the most reckless, but sometimes you need to just play things by ear. If you already know that you’re good at manually controlling the defense, then this would be the best option for you.
- Use man coverage
- This play puts a defender up to each offensive player, making it more difficult for them to move.
- Use base align and press coverage
- These two can work together in tandem because pressing your coverage prevents the offense from getting further while base aligning helps slow down running lanes.
- Use a run-stuffing formation
- This play puts a ton of defenders together, making it difficult for the defense to run the ball.

What Is The Run?
If you aren’t a fan of football, running the ball is quite literally when the offensive side tries to take the ball and just runs as fast as possible, usually trying to avoid defending players along the way. The point of the run is to advance the ball as far as you possibly can across the field to get closer to the end zone and score points. When you’re in offense, you’re going to want to do everything in your power to try to advance as far as possible, but being on defense is a whole different thing.
