Riding a whimsical horse to carry you through Hyrule is both fun and practical in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Not only are there basic wild horses to collect, but there are also rare horses that are trickier to find. Horses can be kept in stables which players will unlock after making progress in the game. Players who have first played Breath of the Wild can even transfer their horses to the sequel game, which is a fun new feature. However, some players might be playing for the first time and haven’t learned how to tame horses yet. This guide will teach players how to tame horses in Tears of the Kingdom.
How To Tame Horses in Zelda
It is very worth it to tame a horse, as not only do players have a friend to then carry them around on their journey, but they can also be boarded in a stable. This keeps the horses safe and claims them as the players so they don’t despawn. The tricky part is taming a horse — it is not as easy as players might think. As many other games require, players have to sneak up on the animal in order to tame it. This same rule does apply in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Anyone looking to tame a horse that is in the close distance in front of them will need to crouch down first. After crouching down, players will need to move very slowly toward a wild horse or another mount. Players need to be extremely quiet with each movement as moving closer to the horse.
Something that makes this all a lot trickier is moving forward slowly without Link’s stamina emptying itself. Something to note is a lot of the horse-related features from Breath of the Wild are the same in Tears of the Kingdom.

Something players should note is that some “stealth-boosting” fruit, armor, or elixirs can help the process. Having special fruit or armor isn’t required to tame a horse in Tears of the Kingdom, but it can help. Once a player has jumped upon a horse they wish to tame, a prompt will pop up, letting them know to press the A button. This allows players to mount the horse, which will begin taming it.
While the taming process is happening, the horse will buck, draining Link’s stamina each time. As long as a player can sneak up on a horse and they watch out for Link’s stamina, as that can be many ways people die within the game. Soon after, the horse will be tamed. That’s how to tame horses in Tears of the Kingdom.
