Similar to other looter shooters like Borderlands, The First Descendant also offers unique character Classes to play with. Not counting future updates, currently, there are 11 characters, all of which embody different archetypes such as Tank and DPS. Since choosing only one character can be boring, here’s how you can unlock more Descendants or Classes in The First Descendant.

The First Descendant: How to Get More Characters or Class

At the start of the game, you can pick one out of three Descendants for free: Ajax, Lepic, and Viessa. Then complete the “Bunny Crafting Training Stage” Mission and you’ll unlock one additional Class, Bunny.

Now, to unlock even more The First Descendant characters, you need to speak with the Anais NPC in Albion. This Magister will let you see the list of all Classes and Weapons that you can research and unlock. However, unlocking them requires you to reach certain milestones as well as spent materials and real-time hours. Different Descendants or Classes will need different materials and time spans to be fully researched.

Basically, you will need at least 300,000 Gold and wait around 12 hours to unlock a character in The First Descendant. However, during the Open Beta period, all research costs are reduced to 100,000 Gold. In terms of materials you will require these four items:

  • Descendant-specific Enhanced Cells
  • Descendant-specific Stabilizer
  • Descendant-specific Spiral Catalyst
  • Descendant-specific Code

The First Descendant character unlock materials then have to be made using raw materials you get from completing quests.

As an example, Ajax’s Spiral Catalyst can be crafted from Monad Shard, Semiconstant Plasma, Optical Catalyst, and Ajax Spiral Catalyst Blueprint. While Valby’s Spiral Catalyst is made from Metal Accelerant, Hardner, Hyper Cube, and Valby Spiral Catalyst Blueprint.

If you don’t know where to find them, you can click on each materials icon in the Research menu to open the Acquisition Info window. It should tell you which quest or location to find that particular The First Descendant character unlock material.

However, a Descendant’s Core will have to be purchased through the Descendant Material Shop. Again, it can be accessed when you talk with Anais. All items sold in this Shop require Credits instead of Gold. While you don’t have to purchase any microtransactions to get Credits, the currency is harder to farm than Gold.
