This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

You don’t have to be a Supercell fanatic to understand the importance of new units. Every character provides a new power that can transform your strategy. Whether it’s the Witch’s skeletal summoning or the Medic’s healing abilities, having the right unit composition means winning more matches. It also means getting your squad busted less often. Clash favorites like the Barbarian and Goblin can transform your squad, but only once you unlock them, and that can get pricy. Here’s how to unlock new units for free in Squad Busters.

Squad Busters Free Unit Guide

There are two main ways to unlock new units for free in Squad Busters: Chest Tickets and Portal Energy. You can purchase Chest Tickets from the shop (1 for 2,500 Gold or 3 for 6,000), but that’s a costly option since you can’t just redeem codes for them. You can also earn Chest Tickets via the Gem Pass by simply playing, and that’s the better option if you’re a FTP gamer trying to mind your Gold reserves. Portal Energy is the better option. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open the Book in the main menu and look at your available Challenges
  2. Complete Monster, Battle Mod, and Spell Challenges to earn Portal Energy
  3. Spend Portal Energy to earn free characters and unlock new worlds

If you want to collect Portal Energy to unlock characters for free in Squad Busters, it’s always wise to check out your Challenges before starting a match. Although you’ll progress these Challenges through gameplay regardless, it helps if you can target them specifically. Spamming spells, busting specific enemies, and winning matches grants Portal Energy, so the more you play, the faster you’ll unlock new characters. Good thing Bomb spells are free.

Free Unlockable Characters

There are plenty of characters you can unlock for free in Squad Busters using Portal Energy, so you won’t be stuck with Greg and a Chicken for long. Here are all the characters gained this way (and when they unlock):

  • Colt – Green World
  • Goblin – Green World
  • Chicken – Green World
  • Witch – Green World
  • Bo – Desert World
  • Shelly – Desert World
  • Nita – Desert World
  • Trader – Royal World
  • Mavis – Royal World
  • Heavy – Beach World

Unlocking these characters using Portal Energy only grants you their Baby form, so you’ll still need to upgrade them. Squad Busters tries to keep your characters roughly the same level, so hold off on unlocking the next world until you’re happy with the progress of your current characters, otherwise, they’ll be harder to grind as the game prioritizes new units. Be patient. Mortis and Penny aren’t far off.

Squad Busters is available for Mobile.
