The second secret character and last one you can unlock in Elden Ring Nightreign is the Revenant. Contrary to the previous Nightfarer, unlocking this one has a few more steps. You’ll also have to tackle a somewhat challenging fight, but after doing so, you’ll get the best support character in the game, who can deal as much damage as possible while also keeping allies alive and enemies at bay. Below are all the steps you must follow to get the Revenant.
Obtaining the Besmirched Frame

You’ll first need to get the Duchess to unlock the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign. Once the Duchess is part of your team, head to the Small Jar Bazaar and purchase the Besmirched Frame. It might be a bit expensive at first, but usually three or four expeditions should give you enough currency for this item.

Once you have the item with you, which also serves as a Relic you can equip, open your map, and you’ll notice a quest marker. Head to it. If you’re having trouble finding it, it is in the room where the Journal is.

You’ll see a phantom in the corner where the paintings are. If you talk to the phantom, you’ll get taken to a boss fight against four enemies.
How to Defeat the Night Idol

If you accept the duel, you’ll find yourself in the tutorial area. Here, you must defeat the Night Idol and her three Spirits. The fight can be a bit complicated for melee classes, so we recommend bringing the Ironeye. Once you enter the arena, do the following:
- Focus on the smallest Spirit, the one with the rapier. This one attacks quickly but also has the least poise, meaning you can stagger it with your shots or other attacks.
- After that, you can ignore the other two Spirits and focus on the Night Idol, since the former two are quite slow. Yet, if you want to defeat them all, start with the hooded one and finish with the large skeleton. The latter is more dangerous but also the slowest of the bunch.
- When facing the Night Idol, stay close to her at all times and try to use heavy attacks or spam your arrows, if you brought Ironeye. If you’re far away, she’ll throw holy attacks your way, which hurt a lot. If you get too close, she’ll attack with spectral claws, which also hit hard. However, she also has very low poise, meaning that some strong attacks will stagger her.
Once you beat the Night Idol, you’ll get the Revenant as a playable character. Contrary to others, she has a varied kit that mixes high Incantation damage, summons, and even heals if you have the right seals. Plus, she’s also great for solo players, so if you prefer to play alone, unlocking the Revenant should be your priority.
