Part of the charm of fighting in Dave the Diver comes from the equipment you get, and its rogue-like mechanics make every choice matter more. This is great as you’ll seek better weapons when exploring and bringing them back to your boat to unlock them eventually. Even if you permanently unlock some of your armaments, you can improve them and add special effects by upgrading them in Dave the Diver.

You must progress through the main story to unlock weapon upgrades in Dave the Diver. You’ll get a quest involving Duff that’ll lead you to your first boss fight; once you defeat the boss, you’ll unlock the feature to upgrade your weapons. While unlocking this feature isn’t hard, the following steps to get better guns can be challenging. You’ll need many materials, some of which require a lot of grinding. Yet, this game is quite rewarding whenever you unlock something, so you shouldn’t neglect to upgrade your guns whenever you can.

How To Get Permanent Weapon Upgrades

We must discuss the two upgrade types to understand how weapon upgrades work in Dave the Diver. The temporary ones are those you’ll find in certain chests and add an effect to your harpoon. These effects go from poison to shock and even burn. On the other hand, permanent upgrades are the ones you get by going to Duff’s shop and clicking Left Control to open the upgrade tab to see a list of all the upgrades you can get. You can strengthen your weapon or add effects to some of your guns. However, you’ll need rare materials to get specific guns that will take you to some of the most dangerous areas of the Blue Hole.

Weapon upgrades in Dave the Diver are key to exploring some of the game’s most challenging areas. You can add several effects to your guns to make them even better. If you want high-quality fish, we recommend adding a tranquilizer effect to any of your guns. Getting the materials will take some time, but it’ll be worth it in the end.
