Curveballs, such as Meat Bait, serve as throwable weapons or grenades in Dead Island 2. Each has different cooldown timers and unique abilities. For instance, the Molotov Cocktail can burn the walking dead, and the Shuriken can maim them their limbs. Meat Bait is one the earliest Curveballs you and your friends can unlock in Dead Island 2. This guide will tell you how to get and use this useful throwable.

How Does Dead Island 2 Meat Bait Work?

In Dead Island 2, you can equip up to two Curveballs regardless of which Slayer you use. These grenade-type items can be found and equipped through your inventory. Simply press the left and right d-pad if you use a controller or the T and Q keys on the keyboard to throw the two Curveballs that you have equipped.

How to Unlock Meat Bait in Dead Island 2

To unlock the Meat Bait Curveball, you have to play the game up until you meet Carlos in Bel-Air, the trader in Emma’s house. During the “Call the Cavalry” tutorial quest, he will give you the item for free as your first Curveball in the game. To make one, you need three Meat and one Duct Tape.

A returning throwable weapon from the first game, Meat Bait works just like the Pipe Bomb in Left 4 Dead 2 and Back 4 Blood. This throwable is different from other projectiles because instead of causing damage, its purpose is to distract the enemy; when thrown, Meat Bait will create a puddle of meat and blood that will attract any Walker, Runner, or other zombies to that particular location.

That means Meat Bait is the perfect tool for crowd-control purposes. You can throw one and follow it up with other Curveballs that deal area-of-effect damage. AoE throwables include the Molotov Cocktail, Pipe Bomb, and Military Grenade. Meat Bait can lure a horde to another location, such as directing the undead to environmental damages such as fire or acid. However, keep in mind that attacking a distracted zombie will turn its back on you again. Furthermore, this Curveball does not work on most Apex Infected except Slobbers.

Eventually, you will be able to unlock Dead Island 2’s improved version of Meat Bait: The Bait Bomb. This Curveball is basically a combination of the Pipe Bomb and Meat Bait. When thrown, this grenade can attract a nearby zombie horde and explode after a short while.

Dead Island 2 is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
