While the Moon environments of Lethal Company aren’t terribly complex to navigate, traversing certain areas can be a pain, regardless of how many hours you’ve been employed. Whether it’s a ledge just out of reach or a gap too far for a sprint jump, some spots can be annoying to get to on your own. As always, the Company provides, and the equippable tool perfect for such problematic traversal situations is the Extension Ladder in Lethal Company. Needless to say, its use is straightforward, but there are specific things to keep in mind before buying it from the Store.

How Does the Lethal Company Extension Ladder Work?

After you’ve purchased your Extension Ladder from the supply pod at the start of your Moon run, you can equip it in your inventory as you would a Flashlight or Shovel. Placing it down does nothing, but if you press LMB when holding it, you’ll put it on the ground, after which it’ll vertically extend its ladder and fall over. Note that if you’re standing under its falling path, you will be insta-killed; those who’ve chopped down trees in Valheim will be familiar with this mechanic.

The idea is to place the Lethal Company Extension Ladder down where you need to cross a horizontal or vertical gap that is impossible via jumping. Moreover, this tool can come in handy if you’re trying to cross an area with quicksand. The Extension Ladder is the “best friend” of Company personnel who lack the confidence or jump-timing to leap across the catwalk gaps in the early-game indoor areas.

Hypothetically speaking, you could use the ladder to escape danger as well, unless you’re dealing with Hoarding Bugs. For instance, I crossed a large dark abyss using my Extension Ladder, after which one of these pests grabbed my ladder and scurried off, leaving me stranded to take another pathway back. Prior to this rather vexing occurrence, I also learned that you cannot pick up the ladder from the “non-box end” of the tool.

Let’s recap how you can use the Extension Ladder in Lethal Company:

  1. Hoarding Bugs can steal it.

  2. Don’t stand below it when it’s falling over.

  3. Use it to cross quicksand or large gaps or ascend an elevated ledge.

You can also escape certain short enemies bound to the floor.
