HTC Chairwoman, Cher Wang, promises to release a “hero product” in October, with significant improvements and innovations, Taipei Times reports. Speaking at the annual general shareholders’ meeting in Taipei, Wang said that this next product will offset HTC’s latest handset, HTC One M9, in terms of product design and specification.
Ever since HTC One M7 was introduced in 2013, HTC did not make any significant changes to the design of the M series until its most recent entry, the HTC One M9. There were only some minor changes, but the design’s general outline is basically the same. Wang promises that the company will leave this design, and are ready to create a new innovative handset.
Furthermore, Wang apologized to the company’s investors for HTC’s disappointing performance in the share market. To make up for this, she announced the company’s plans to release several innovative products throughout the rest of the year, one of which is the “hero product” mentioned.
According to phonearena, HTC One M9’s disappointing sales were the result of the company’s terrible performance in the share market, having experienced 38.6% plunged in revenues year-over-year in April, the month it was released. The newest entry to the M series was criticised lacking differentiation from its previous model, and the phone’s prone to overheating didn’t help either.
As cited by ibtimes, HTC isn’t even one of the top 10 handset makers in terms of global shipment. A new “hero product” in October might still be too late to change HTC’s capital.
It is predicted that this promised product will be based on Windows 10 Phone OS. This is because the logo of the taiwanese-based company was spotted at Microsoft’s booth in Computex 2015.
Unfortunately, no other information can verify the description of HTC’s next flagship model. Only time will tell.
