Hulu has officially issued a series order for Under the Bridge, a true crime drama based on the 1997 murder of a Canadian teenage girl. The eight-episode limited series, which is set to be executive produced by Quinn Shepard, will debut as the latest addition to Hulu’s ever-growing collection of true crime material, joining titles like The Girl from Plainville and Pam & Tommy.
Originally based on an Arthur Ellis Award-winning 2005 nonfiction novel by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu adaptation of Under the Bridge will tell the story of the horrible death of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk, who went out to join her friends at a party but never returned home. Godfrey’s book delves into the secret world of the seven teenage girls and one boy accused of Reena’s murder, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and reveals “startling truths” about the unlikely killer.
Behind the Scenes of ‘Under the Bridge’
Details regarding the cast of the eight-episode limited series haven’t been released yet, but ABC Signature has been confirmed as the studio behind the series on behalf of Walt Disney Television. Samir Mehta, best known for his work on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies (2022) and The Sinner (2018), and Liz Tigelaar, an executive producer of Little Fires Everywhere (2020), will be joining the series as showrunners and executive producers, according to Deadline. Mehta and Tigelaar will be joined by fellow Under the Bridge executive producers Rebecca Godfrey, Quinn Shephard (Not Okay), Stacey Silverman (Tiny Beautiful Things), and Geeta Patel (Runaways), who will also direct.
Hulu’s Under the Bridge will be the second project created under an agreement between Liz Tigelaar’s Best Day Ever production banner and ABC Signature. The pair are currently in production on Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things, based on a 2012 advice column anthology by Charlotte Strayed; the series will be produced by Reese Witherspoon, Hello Sunshine, and Laura Dern’s Jaywalker Pictures.
A release date for Hulu’s Under the Bridge has not yet been announced.
