Humankind is one of the more intriguing games that’s about to make its way to storefronts. Many of the fans of the Civilization series were left unsatisfied with what’s been changed about the latest installment, Civilization VI. Mind you, there’s plenty who are in love with that game, but it’s definitely a larger margin than many would expect. As such, Humankind’s imminent release seems like a breath of fresh air and a return to what made this style of 4X great. If you’re one of those quite excited for the title, you’ll be happy about today’s news. Microsoft and developer Amplitude Studios are happy to announce that Humankind will be available from day one on
For those otherwise unaware of Humankind, here’s the official description taken from the game’s Steam page:
Combine up to 60 historical cultures as you lead your people from the Ancient to the Modern Age. From humble origins as a Neolithic tribe, transition to the Ancient Era as the Babylonians, become the Classical era Mayans, the Medieval Umayyads, the Early Modern era British, and so on. Each culture will add its own special gameplay layer, leading to near-endless outcomes.”
The title is expected to release just over one week from today on August 17. And its reception, while lacking any scores, is far from poor. According to the aforementioned Steam post, the game has won the Gamescom Best Strategy Game award for 2020, was a finalist for Best PC Game of 2020, and even was considered a Most Anticipated Game at GDC (and by Unity). Humankind’s release on Game Pass for PC is just one more step in the title’s long, hard-fought, and rewarding journey towards release.
