‘I Hear the Screams of Triggered Liberals’ New Mexico Democrats Furious Over Trump’s ‘New America’ Rebrand

Breaking all the way bad

President Donald Trump set off a wave of pushback from New Mexico Democrats after floating a new name for the state: “New America.”

The official White House X account posted the image Sunday, showing “Mexico” crossed out in the state’s name and “America” written underneath it. The post itself did not announce an official name change or executive order, but its message was difficult to miss: New Mexico becomes New America in a move that triggered a lot of folks.

In his own social media post on Truth Social, President Trump said the following.

Many people suggested changing the name of New Mexico, one of the great vote cheating states of all time, to NEW AMERICA. So much more prestigious and beautiful for the people of that potentially incredible State. Wow, I Love It!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP

A Reddit thread discussing the image quickly attracted thousands of votes, with commenters largely treating the proposal as another entry in Trump’s growing fascination with renaming places. Reactions ranged from concerns about how far the idea could go to people simply mocking what maps might look like if everything gets branded “America.”

New Mexico Locals React

The response also reflected broader skepticism toward Trump’s recent interest in renaming places. Several Reddit users interpreted the New Mexico image less as a serious policy announcement and more as Trump testing how much attention and acceptance increasingly dramatic proposals might get, given the Iran war and other efforts he is struggling with right now.

“… grandpa needs supervision.”

“It’s only a matter of time before he’s unable to saying anything else and will just spout “America” like a Pokémon.”

“DISTRACTION DISTRACTION DISTRACTION: Ignore. Keep 100% focused on the MIDTERMS! VOLUNTEER, CANVAS, and most importantly VOTE!”

Whatever the intention behind the post, “New America” clearly struck a nerve. For now, New Mexico remains New Mexico. But judging by the local Democratic reaction, Americans are already preparing for the possibility that they may eventually need a map just to figure out which “America” they are currently standing in.
