‘I Love Mexican People’: Man Who Called ‘ICE’ on Latino Neighbor Claims It was an ‘Accident’ After Family is Torn Apart in California

Too little, too late

A heated call on a radio station program recently went viral, as it featured a couple of neighbors, one of whom supposedly called ICE on the other, leading to the latter losing his wife and kids to deportation. While it appears the neighbor was somewhat apologetic, the Latino man was not about to forgive him after losing his family, leading to a rather tense neighborhood situation in California.

Man calls ICE on his neighbor—gets the wife & daughter deported.

"I'm sorry, it was an accident," he says.

"You never wanted us in this neighborhood—you liar!" man yells.

"I don't mind you people… I got Mexican friends," he replies. "We had Mexican lady who cleaned for us."… pic.twitter.com/86WfszgR8h

The call came from a segment on 102.9 KBLX based in California. Apparently, Antonio, the Latino man who lost his wife and kids, was doing some construction on his house in San Francisco, but his neighbor got annoyed and called the “police” on him instead of talking it out. This “police” call somehow led to an ICE crackdown, and commenters even accused Antonio’s neighbor of going directly to ICE instead of the police. In the neighbor’s defense, “I had no idea that was going to happen, man.”

The hosts invited the two men to see if they could “hash out” the situation in the call, but what happened instead was Antonio ranting and calling out his neighbor for supposedly dehumanizing behavior, especially after making excuses such as, “I love Mexican people, I’ve got all kinds of Mexican friends. We had a Mexican lady that cooked and cleaned for us.”

Sadly, this excuse only further infuriated Antonio, who then decided not to forgive the ICE caller. It’s not clear where Antonio’s wife and kids are right now or where they were deported to, but it appears the two men are still neighbors at this point.

People Online are Calling the Apology Useless

As expected, a lot of people online were not sympathetic to the neighbor who was accused of calling ICE. Commenters on Instagram even further accused the neighbor of apologizing for selfish reasons, with comments such as, “This is a perfect example of people apologizing to make themselves feel better, not because they actually mean it. I’m with Antonio.”

Meanwhile, others have sympathized with Antonio’s complaint when he ranted about his neighbor seeing him as “a gardener, a construction worker, a cleaning person, he does not see me as a human.” Some even claimed Antonio was right to be mad, “Antonio’s crash out is justified. His neighbor is a potential death merchant. This is terrible and it breaks my heart.”

Another commenter has since called out MAGA‘s mentality and how they voted for these kinds of situations without knowing the suffering it can cause, “That’s what Maga doesn’t understand. They voted for this with no regard to how mass deportation would impact innocent immigrant families or even their American countrymen.”
