A Maryland boy has always gone to bed at exactly 8 p.m. However, he feels that, after so many years, he is entitled to stay up past his bedtime. His mother, hearing his complaints, decided to submit his request to the court of public opinion, asking online users for views and likes to allow him to stay up an additional 30 minutes each day.

TikToker melez907 (Mele) shared her predicament with the internet. She revealed that her son, a 13-year-old boy, goes to sleep every day at 8 p.m., something that has lasted since he was only 3 years old. According to her, he needs a “full night’s rest” because, otherwise, he wouldn’t “function” at school.

The boy, who was sitting right next to her and laughing at her mother’s antics, wanted an additional 30 minutes each night just to be awake. The Maryland mother, however, argued against it.

“No, eight o’clock is a good time to go to bed,” she said. We have to be out of the house by 7 for them to be at school.”

The boy, not wasting his opportunity, said that he wakes up before his mom. Mele wasn’t having any of it, saying that “it don’t matter,” as he had to do things during the morning.

The mother then offered him a deal: the video needed to reach a specific number of views and likes for him to get his 30 minutes. The boy asked for 2 likes, and Mele, of course, said no. She, instead, proposed a goal of 200,000 views and 20,000 likes. The boy argued for 15, and they both agreed at 17,000 likes.

“TikTok, do your thing,” Mele said.

Clip Goes Viral, Bedtime Changed?

And TikTok definitely did its thing. As of the writing of this article, the Maryland mother’s clip has been seen more than 362,000 times and has accumulated more than 62,400 likes. It is safe to say that the 13-year-old boy will now get to sleep at 8:30 p.m. every single day.

Many users argued that the boy should be staying up even later than that, with some suggesting a 9:30 p.m. bedtime. Mele, of course, said that was “crazy.” Others, however, said that the boy might be growing resentful of her.

“I know he can’t wait to go to college,” one user said. Another one commented, “Don’t create a resentful child. If he’s a good kid, give him the wiggle room.” A third one added, “And he wakes up before you??? Let him stay up later, he’s a teenager now.”

An update has yet to be posted, but given the interaction between mother and son, their relationship appears to be solid gold.
