Current IDW comics writer Ian Flynn is making a return for the next installment of the Sonic Frontiers game series. For those not in the know, if you liked the Sonic Frontiers story, then you like Ian Flynn too. He helped create the story, fleshing out the necessary details required by SEGA. Ian Flynn has been writing for the Sonic series for many years, more notably in the comics than in the games. Working with both Archie comics and IDW comics to create Sonic in a smaller series, Ian has a good handle on what SEGA wants to achieve with each character. Because of that, the tonal shift taken in Frontiers feels natural and on point for each character.

Will Ian Flynn Have More Writing Authority in the Sonic Frontiers DLC?
It is likely because of Sonic Frontiers‘ success that Ian is returning to the video game writing world. However, he admits that he has no more authority than before. So fans that are a fan of Ian Flynn should keep expectations low, at least concerning his control over the Sonic Frontiers DLC story. He tweeted that he will have a similar role as before. SEGA will create the building blocks for the story while Ian “fleshes out the details.” Concerning the announcement, Kishimoto first revealed that Ian would return to the writing team. Flynn himself later confirmed this after the announcement. Kishimoto had this to say during the announcement,
“Of course, Ian Flynn will write it. Although Sonic Frontier has a huge amount of settings, there are many episodes that could not be told, Now that we’ve decided which episode to go with, I’m sure we’ll be able to meet everyone’s expectations!”
The DLC coming up next for Sonic Frontiers features not only a new story but some new playable characters as well. With Kishimoto’s announcement, fans are eagerly awaiting the next point of the story in Sonic Frontiers.
