This week has definitely been one full of Sonic news, and for now, it shows no sign of stopping. The latest entry to the Sonic Frontiers DLC waves has just dropped, giving us the Sights, Sounds and Speed update that many have been waiting for. However, recent leaks related to the DLC have sprung up from the game’s files, leading players to believe that the playable characters may be more predictable than initially thought. The SoaHCity Twitter account for Sonic the Hedgehog News revealed that the update includes some newly added files that may help indicate who is going to be playable in the DLC down the line.

As most fans know by now, the last installment of the DLC for Sonic Frontiers involves new playable characters. The promotional reveal by Sonic Team and the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter has more or less hinted at who these characters are, although they haven’t been explicitly revealed. In the image of the reveal tweet, fans can see Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Sage in the section of the image that concerns the last bit of DLC. Does this tweet confirm them? More or less, but not in any official capacity.
Sonic Frontiers DLC Character Leak Could Confirm The Core Four
Sonic Frontiers is the first modern Sonic game in a long time to confirm playable characters other than the Blue Blur himself. We haven’t seen the likes of Tails, Amy, or Knuckles as playable friends since the classic or 2000’s days, in games like Sonic Mania or Sonic Adventure. However, with the new leak that features specific character files, the lack of some side characters may be soon a thing of the past. The player, which is Sonic, has a file called player_common.rfl. Since the update, fans have discovered three new files in Frontiers’ code, called Amy, Knuckles, and Tails_common.rfl respectfully. Whether these files are actually ready for any kind of use or not is unknown, but it does seem evident that the first wave of DLC has purposely helped pave the way for the other ones in the future.
Sonic Frontiers is available for Switch, PC, PS4/5, and Xbox X/S systems.
