Given the range of actions by ICE agents, one might think nothing surprises people anymore. Surprise raids are among ICE’s common tactics, but their methods are sinking to even lower levels. For example, residents of Chicago, Illinois, recorded several ICE agents changing their license plates. The worst part is that no one can do anything about it to stop this situation.
Redditor ResourceNo4626 shared a video on r/illinois showing a man behind a vehicle, removing its license plate. However, this man is not just anyone, because after he moves to the passenger seat and another man gets out of the truck, you can see from their uniforms that they are ICE agents. The worst part is that both agents return to the back of the car with another license plate to replace the one they removed. While they are making the change, a third agent approaches with another license plate, and they end up swapping the plates. The video follows the third agent to the vehicle, where they will surely put the exchanged license plate
“Completely illegal in the state of Illinois. State crimes aren’t federally pardonable. Keep it up, there is going to be a reckoning,” said Unilted_Match1176.
It is obvious that these ICE agents know perfectly well that it is illegal to change license plates, because another user pointed out that they made the change at a cemetery in Chicago. So obviously, the agents looked for a place where no one could see them.
“I don’t live in Illinois, but I thought Pritzker set up a hotline to report these incidents. Is anybody using that and reporting these criminals? Does the Illinois State police not have any jurisdiction here since what they’re doing is a crime?” commented someotherguyrva.
Just as this user suggested, others said that reporting officers who are caught doing illegal things should be reported. However, most people pointed out that the police themselves defend ICE and that it would be difficult for citizens to get a fair trial, since it seems that the law itself is erasing any trace of ICE being above the law.
“Why respect the law when those tasked with enforcing it don’t?” added IllHedgehog9715.
All that’s left to say is we hope everyone stays safe. As some have suggested, it’s best to avoid renting cars if possible, since these rentals could carry a record that affects whoever is driving them.
