ICE really seems to have no hesitation when it comes to targeting people. If you think that being a civilian and not a criminal will protect you, think again. Just take a look at this short video uploaded to Reddit. It shows ICE agents in San Antonio, California, grabbing a man who was simply speaking peacefully. Four agents surrounded him and forced him to the ground. As they pinned him, you can clearly hear him shouting, “I can’t breathe,” over and over. Still, the agents didn’t seem to care.
Some nearby civilians tried to step in, alarmed by how desperate the man sounded, but other ICE agents quickly pushed them back. One male agent even slammed a woman against the back of a car to stop her from getting closer. He then twisted her arms behind her back and handcuffed her on the spot.
Other bystanders raised their phones and started recording, trying to make sure the incident was documented. The San Antonio man and the woman were then taken away, likely shoved into an ICE van moments later. Thankfully, the person filming the video wasn’t targeted, though you can still hear ICE agents shouting, “Get the f**k out of here!”
The video spread online quickly, sparking outrage across social media. Many questioned how ICE could justify arresting someone who had done nothing more than speak calmly without any sign of aggression. One user summed up the mood by writing, “Being brown around ICE is apparently a crime.”
Others turned their criticism toward the local police, accusing them of standing by and allowing ICE agents to attack regular citizens. Many questioned whether the phrase “protect and serve” meant anything anymore. One user commented, “Wtf, the actual police just standing around and watching. Pretty pathetic.”
A handful of users also took direct aim at Stephen Miller, calling him a Nazi. One Redditor wrote, “Miller is a coward hiding behind Trump. While everyone’s distracted by Trump’s dementia-induced nonsense, Miller is the one we should really be watching.”
Several users said they would not be celebrating the Fourth of July, pointing out that there was nothing left to celebrate. They argued that freedom in America was gone and that the country had become a fascist state. Others questioned why more people were not reacting to what ICE and the Trump administration were doing.
One user wrote, “I mean, Americans, this is literally the thing they kept saying ‘Never forget’ about as they’re dragging us off the street in broad motherfuckin’ daylight. I don’t know what it’s going to take, but apparently, broad-daylight abductions and concentration camps is still somehow not it.”
