A disturbing clip posted on Instagram from a hospital in Kissimmee, Florida, shows law enforcement officers aggressively detaining a mother while she was still wearing a hospital gown following a serious car crash, as her daughter and other family members cried nearby. The footage shows officers physically removing the mother from the hospital bed as a family member recorded the incident.
As several women cried during the confrontation, the family member behind the camera could be heard pleading with officers in Spanish. The caption of the post stated that the mother and daughter were receiving treatment in the hospital after being involved in a car accident that left them injured. It explained that the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, which made the arrest, had rushed to the hospital to question the women. According to the family, Grace Calero, 39, had a pending asylum case and work permit, while her 19-year-old daughter, Giulianna Carriel, had a visa they said was valid through 2030. The family’s account of their immigration status has not been independently verified.
According to the account shared with the video, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office contacted ICE, which subsequently issued a detainer. The family also claimed Giulianna suffered a seizure during the confrontation after witnessing her mother’s detention.
Outrage Erupts In The Comments Against the Agency’s Actions
Online observers expressed shock and anger over the incident, with many questioning the amount of force officers appeared to use while detaining the woman. A firm commenter wrote, “They really are arresting sick people at the hospital.” Condemning the lack of empathy shown in the clip, a viewer asserted that it depicted the lack of humanity. A user questioned the need for such harsh tactics against nonthreatening individuals, while another argued the agency’s action was intentional, saying they could at least have let the women recover first.
Drawing a historical comparison, a user wrote, “ICE is really out of control. Videos like this sure make it look like 1940s Germany Gestapo. Far too much ego, far too much power. Far too many lunatics.” Expressing outrage at the unchecked authority, a commenter called for systemic transparency, urging citizens to exercise their civic rights to ensure leaders protect vulnerable individuals. Some users broadened the discussion, invoking moral and ethical issues: “What a disgusting thing to do and a disgrace to their civil rights; hospitals, churches, and schools should be protected from this kind of atrocity!”
The footage has fueled outrage over immigration enforcement inside hospitals, with many viewers questioning why the mother was detained while apparently still receiving treatment. As of publication, official accounts have not fully established the circumstances surrounding the woman’s immigration status and the law enforcement response.
