A massive hailstorm in Nampa, Idaho, turned the streets into a river filled with sheets of ice. A video posted on Instagram and reposted on X showed a man canoeing past, making good use of the natural disaster. The clip was taken by someone in a car driving through the streets. The sound of the water rushing through the tires as the car moved could be heard. A car parked on the street was submerged up to the taillights. The person recording the video turned the camera to the driver’s side, where a man in a green canoe could be seen paddling his way through the river of ice.

As reported by Idaho News, the river was a result of storms that happened overnight. As a result, city workers had been deployed since 9 pm, with another crew taking over by 6 am to clear the water. The crew pumped out more than 228,000 gallons of water, and there was still more work to be done. The city encouraged residents to report street flooding by calling a designated phone line if the water reaches the top of the curb.

Netizens React To The Bizarre Hailstorm And Surprising Canoe

Social media users stormed the comments, expressing a sense of shock and fascination at the flooded, ice-choked streets. Many expressed lighthearted amusement at the absurdity of the man canoeing in the streets, while some reflected on the disturbing climatic conditions that birthed the hailstorm.

An astonished user wrote, “Never in my life have I heard ‘inches of hail.’” Another echoed, “Hail? Was it hailing sheets of ice? I’ve never seen anything like this. This is some of the most bizarre weather. I’m from West Texas, so that’s saying a lot.” Finding humor in the surreal sight, a netizen compared it to the final scenes of Titanic, where rescue boats navigate through ice chunks to save people. Some users joked about the man’s decision to canoe in the streets. “Haha, they woke up and said, ‘hell yeah, I don’t even have to travel to use my kayak today, I can do it right in front of my house!’” a user wrote.

Some environmentally concerned users attributed the hailstorm to climate change. One netizen challenged the people who deny the reality of global climate change; another blatantly pointed out that the storm was an obvious sign of global warming, while another asserted that the planet is probably furious with the way humans have been treating it, and decided to retaliate. Shocked by the sudden season inversion, a bewildered netizen observed that the scene looked like an intense winter blizzard in the peak of the summer.
