An Illinois couple took their love of sports to a whole new level when they opted to get married in front of thousands of strangers in a strange quickie ceremony on the field during a Chicago White Sox game. The couple, named Mark and Kristine Igyarto, also brought along their baby daughter as they tied the knot at Rate Field over the weekend in a ceremony that only lasted for one minute.
As the Chicago White Sox battled the Cleveland Guardians on their home turf, they also celebrated the union of Mark and Kristine, who are such die-hard Sox fans that they opted to get married right there on the field. The Illinois couple sadly didn’t get to celebrate a White Sox win that night, as the Guards took home the victory in a 3-1 ballgame.
However, their weird and wild whirlwind wedding was captured by many and is not immortalized on the internet. Despite their fandom, the couple didn’t wear MLB-themed outfits for the wedding. Instead, they opted for a classic look. Mark wore a black tux and Kristine donned the traditional white gown. They were surrounded by white flowers as they said their vows.
Illinois Couple Gets Married at Chicago White Sox Stadium
“Ladies and gentlemen, today we gather at Rate Field to witness the greatest team-up since the 2005 White Sox, the marriage of Mark and Kristine,” the officiant stated in a video posted by the MLB. “Your rings are like championship rings: earned, cherished and a symbol of your bond. Are you ready to be joined in marriage?”
“By the power invested in me by the state of Illinois, the Chicago White Sox, the South Siders everywhere, I now pronounce you husband and wife,” he added.
Many people on the internet loved the unique and fun wedding. “This video is a perfect mix of baseball and humor! Love the unexpected wedding twist โ definitely brings a smile,” one person wrote. “Cheaper to get married at a Sox game than go to city hall,” another stated.
However, other critics weren’t so sure about the choice to get married on-field in front of so many strangers at the public venue. “What a genuinely terrible decision,” another stated. “They can get divorced at Wrigley in 7 years,” joked a fourth person.
It looks like Mark and Kristine pulled off their perfect wedding, even though it only lasted one minute and was attended by several strangers. While there may have been haters in the online comment sections, we’re rooting for the baseball-loving Illinois couple.
