Amid continuous calls to remove Matt Hancock from the ITV show, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, the campers experienced a major breach that disrupted base camp activities as an anti-Matt Hancock banner flew overhead. The 35-meter banner contained a clear message for the former health secretary, with the protesters ensuring he would not miss it.
The anti-Matt Hancock banner, suspended on an airplane, flew over the ITV show’s campsite located at the NSW/QLD border in Australia on Tuesday morning. It read, “Covid Bereaved Say Get Out Of Here!”
A Message To Matt
The controversial banner was a message to Matt Hancock, whose participation in the ongoing season of the ITV show has stirred backlash. Weeks earlier, ITV bosses announced the minister as a late entry to the camp, alongside English comedian and actor Seann Walsh. The revelation, fueled by Matt’s controversial past, forced many to protest. A petition against the British politician surfaced in no time, garnering nearly 45 thousand signatures.
The body Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice championed the petition with the launch of their campaign, “He’s No Celebrity – Stop Matt Hancock appearing on I’m A Celebrity.” With enough signatories, the website 38 Degrees secured an airplane to drive home their message to Matt Hancock on the “I’m A Celeb” campsite.
Speaking to Daily Star, a representative of the 38 Degrees website explained the logic behind the anti-Matt Hancock banner. According to the rep, they made the move to ensure Matt received the message from the protesters loud and clear. Going further, the rep explained that based on the feedback from the pilot, they were certain the 44-year-old did not miss the warning banner, as the pilot received a noise complaint during the flight.

Another supporter of the anti-Matt Hancock cause, Lobby Akinnola, touched on some of their grievances against the public figure. He also revealed why the Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice wanted him ousted from the ITV show, saying:
“Matt Hancock isn’t a celebrity. He’s a former health secretary who oversaw the UK having one of the highest death tolls in the world from COVID-19, while breaking his own lockdown rules.”
Lobby pointed out that contrary to Matt’s belief, an inquiry into the death toll can only set the record straight and unveil the truth if they had available evidence. However, with the MP refusing to turn over his emails related to the pandemic to them ahead of the inquiry, that possibility seems unlikely. The Matt Hancock protesters believed he should be back home sending in the emails and fulfilling his responsibility to the people rather than making a fortune on I’m A Celeb for doing nothing.
The CEO of 38 degrees, Matthew McGregor, also voiced his stance, saying their banner made their message crystal clear. He also reiterated that rather than play games for a cash prize, Matt should be working on giving the group the answers they sought.
It appears neither the ITV show nor millions of viewers share this belief. Since his arrival on I’m A Celeb last week, Matt Hancock has become a prominent fixture on the show. Aside from receiving the most screentime, he has been voted for five consecutive challenges, stepping up to each one. It looks like the former health secretary came prepared for the rough ride, backlash or not.
