Major sports events can get rowdy, but a woman from Texas still got a bit of a culture shock when she and her friends went to an England-themed bar in the state and encountered a crowd of drunk Englishmen. Their rather vulgar chant even prompted the Texas woman to whip out her phone and start recording the rather surreal encounter, which has now gone viral.
Instagram user Sarah Barthel captured the incident on camera and uploaded the footage in her personal account. Earlier in the week, Barthel went to The Londoner Pub in Dallas, Texas, with her girl friends, but it appears a large group of English tourists greeted them as soon as they entered, chanting “Take your [expletive] out for the lads,” again and again, referring to the women’s chest areas.
This particular time of the year for English football fans is special since the US is a host country to the FIFA World Cup 2026, and Dallas is one of the cities where it takes place. Barthel did mention in her caption that “we did get an apology + drinks after this lol” and didn’t seem too offended by the seemingly drunken football fan crowd. However, the UK citizens in the Instagram user’s comment section were highly apologetic.
One woman from the UK had to apologize on her countrymen’s behalf with a straightforward, “Ugh I’m sorry,” while another swore it’s the same back home, “I’m so sorry. They’re like this here too.” Others claim that it’s supposedly “English” behavior and raised arguments regarding Scotland’s independence, with comments such as “Zero class, Scottish showed them how it’s done” and “In case you’re wondering why the other British nations hate the English, you can add this to a long list.”
The Londoner Pub Had to Close Down Due to the Rowdiness
Apparently, some Texans and US citizens took the incident a little too seriously or perhaps half-jokingly, as some of them stated, “I’m calling ICE” in response to the tourist’s behavior. Another one called out the presumed hypocrisy of the football fans in the Texas bar, “The protect our women gang at large again.”
Meanwhile, Barthel and her friends were not the only ones who shed a spotlight on the English football fan behavior in Dallas. The Londoner Pub actually had to be shut down temporarily after being overwhelmed by England supporters thanks to the World Cup. The bar ultimately decided to shut down after losing control of the crowd.
Apart from 5,000 beers purchased, the bar management also mentioned property and landscaping damage caused by the World Cup tourists, where plants were thrown from the balcony, and soccer balls struck parked vehicles. Police even had to respond to the scene after 911 callers raised some concerns about the crowd size. Despite the lawful intervention, the police didn’t arrest or evict anyone from the bar.
