An Indiana inmate has escaped. 21-year-old Michael Anderson walked off the job site while performing work crew duties with other inmates from the Edinburgh Correctional Facility. The incarcerated man was said to have simply walked away near Vallonia Tree Nursery while on his work detail duty. Anderson was last seen in the area, and police are asking for local residents to keep an eye out for the escapee as he could be dangerous.
According to People Magazine, the Indiana man was serving a three-year sentence behind bars for two counts of burglary. Police describe the inmate as being a black male with light skin. He weighs in at about 184 pounds and stands 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has black hair and brown eyes, as well as some distinguishing tattoos.
His tattoos include a rose on his right hand, a crown on his right arm, and a Chicago Bulls logo inked on his left leg. Anderson was last seen wearing yellow pants and a matching shirt with a thick work jacket and or range hat. He was also revealed to be wearing “long john” type underwear.
Indiana Inmate Escapes After Walking Off During Work Crew Release
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says they don’t believe there’s any true threat at this time. However, they are encouraging the community to keep their doors locked until Anderson is found. “If you see this male, call 911 immediately,” their Facebook post states.
Of course, people had a lot of opinions about the Indiana inmate’s all-too-easy escape.
“I would not want to be the office responsible for keeping watch on the inmates during the work release. How do they let this happen? Either they weren’t paying attention, or there weren’t enough officers to keep sufficient watch,” one person commented.
“Lock your doors and keep them locked. There are scary people everywhere,” another wrote.
“If he doesn’t have any family or friends in the area, there is a real threat that he might turn to robbery yet again. I think the people in the area should definitely be worried and absolutely keep their doors and windows bolted. Don’t play around. You don’t this man’s demeanor or mental state,” a third person shared.
It appears that Indiana residents are hoping that Michael Anderson will be found quickly. However, until that time, it seems that locals will be keeping their focus on spotting that escaped inmate and getting him back behind bars before he can wander off too far.
