They say to always check the small print when it comes to contracts, but how about when you’re buying a beer? Sure, while you’d typically be expected to pay a tip in the US, would you be happy to pay a “b*tching fee”? That’s exactly what happened to this Indiana man, who, upon receiving the wrong beer at a pizzeria, sent it back to get another, only to be hit with a hidden fee on his receipt that reads: “b*tching fee – $5”.
Cropping up on the r/mildlyinfuriating sub-reddit, the patron showed off a picture of his receipt, with the notorious “b*tching fee” in plain sight. Allegedly, the incident occurred when the Indiana resident was out grabbing a bite to eat with some friends at a local pizzeria. “I ordered a Miller Lite and she [the waitress] gave me a Bud Light. But since she had already opened the Bud Light while walking towards my table she couldn’t just swap it out,” the Indiana resident wrote.
Going further, the man explained, “She had to eat the Bud Light, giving it to me for free and then got me a Miller on top of it. Honestly, there wasn’t any b*tching involved so I don’t know what that was about.” As soon as it came time to settle the bill, the patron discovered that a hidden $5 fee had been adding onto his order. “I wasn’t even going to complain, but my friend spoke up forcing me to point out her mistake. I’ve bitched enough in my life to know I’ve earned it. With that said I don’t believe I was bitchy in that moment.” wrote the baffled customer.
Interestingly, the patron didn’t even bring it up with the waitress, even though it was on his mind. “I didn’t even bring it to her attention and just paid and left. I’m sure if I had she would have been absolutely mortified,” he explained.

One Redditor weighed in with a lighthearted joke, penning, “It’s interesting that the b*tching fee is taxable in your area. Where I live it’s non-taxable.” A second user, meanwhile, replied to this, writing, “Must have a stronger b*tching-lobby in your state“.
One thoughtful netizen theorised that it was likely a joke that the waitress had forgotten to remove from the receipt, declaring, “My guess is the server typed that in for the bar as a joke and forgot to change/delete it.” Another comment, however, came in with a strong remark, simply adding, “Wow. No I would refuse to pay that f*ck that“
