Airlines treating their passengers poorly is nothing new, but what happened to one woman traveling between Chicago and Las Vegas was practically torture after the flight attendants told them to simply meditate in the plane amid a 130-degree Fahrenheit heat with no air conditioning. Such a suggestion has notably caused much distress and exasperation among the passengers.
TikTok user and budding influencer brigchicago captured this rather tense moment during her flight with her friends between Las Vegas and Chicago. Based on the video, the plane was on the ground and didn’t have any air conditioning. Since planes are made of aluminum and the sun was up high, it practically turned the whole vehicle into a giant tin can sauna, and brigchicago assumed that the temperature must have reached 130-degrees Fahrenheit or 54 degrees Celsius, which could be exaggerated.
The flight attendants had to step in and try to placate the passengers who were all sweating and fanning themselves using the safety brochures on the plane. Sadly, it didn’t seem to help as the flight attendant’s advice was to basically try to keep calm and meditate under intense heat and humidity, which is impossible unless you’re a lifelong Buddhist monk.
All TikTok user brigchicago and her friend could do was laugh and hold their mouths agape in disbelief at their situation, though I imagine the other passengers’ reactions were not the same. Some passengers might have health issues or even children with them– people who are more sensitive or vulnerable to heat and humidity. And if brigchicago’s temperature assumptions were correct, such heat could’ve easily resulted in a heat stroke.
The Ordeal Seemed Short
Luckily, brigchicago‘s and the other passengers’ struggles in that particular plane didn’t seem to last too long, as the influencer seems to have landed safely and even enjoyed her Las Vegas and Chicago trips soon after. At the time of writing, she hasn’t name-dropped the particular airline, but people were quick to assume that it’s Sun Country, based on their experience and anecdotes.
Regardless of which airline it is, people online have no shortage of horror and borderline torture stories they experienced from airlines all over the US. Others also recalled their own predicaments, similar to what happened to the TikTok influencer, though in notably lower temperatures.
Thus, discussions and further complaints about the state of US airlines and the quality of their service– particularly for commercial flights have intensified in the comment section. Some took the chance to joke and satirize the situation, which further highlighted the issues.
