After the dangerous and wild winter storm covered most of Tennessee in sheer ice, most people had figured out the roads weren’t getting any better. Ice clung to side streets and shaded stretches of highway, turning everyday commutes into slow, treacherous treks. Now, most people you think would drive carefully and be mindful of the conditions aren’t doing that. Instead, riding in a Jeep or pickup truck gives bad drivers false confidence that their Four-Wheel Drive monsters make them immune to basic logic and physics, and that they can tailgate even during this record-setting ice storm.
In a post shared on the mildlyinfuriating Reddit page by the usernamechicksout, a picture showed a trio of trucks in Tennessee driving on a sloped, ice-covered road, basically riding each other’s bumpers despite the rest of the street being completely empty. Why would they do this? Who knows, but clearly they are riding in SUVs and trucks with 4-wheel drive capability, which is causing them to lose whatever lack of common sense they should have in these very obvious poor driving conditions.
People didn’t let them get away with it, and are taking these Knoxville drivers to task in the comments.
“It’s fine. In a Jeep the slightest bit of spin will tip it over anyway.”
“Nothing like riding someone’s bumper on sheer ice because you’ve got “4×4 confidence.” Physics still wins, folks.”
“People are stupid everywhere. This happens in WI where we should definitely know better.”
“100%. I just take my foot off the accelerator and slow to 30mph. It’s extra fun because you get a show of some unhinged asshole in the rear view. Then you can smile and wave once they find somewhere to pass :)”
“It’s crazy how many folks need to face negative consequences before they decide something isn’t a good idea. Do folks just no longer think through things? Do they”
“As Forrest would say, stupid is as stupid does.”
“They call it 4 wheel drive, not 4 wheel stop”
When the ice finally melts, the near-misses will likely not teach these foolish drivers any lessons. If they tailgate in this, they likely won’t change their reckless ways when it’s summer and the weather is nice. Bad drivers of Tennessee, take notice: just because you’re in a 4×4 doesn’t make you immune to common sense or the laws of physics.
