A man in Iowa was removing and carrying a tree stump when he suffered what appeared to be a dislocated knee. What would be a debilitating injury for most was barely an inconvenience for him. He grabbed some rope to fix the issue and even jumped to seal the deal.
The clip was shared on TikTok by Eileen O’Doherty. She often shares lifestyle content and viral trends online. The man in the video, her uncle, took the spotlight as his odd solution to a dislocated kneecap went viral. It garnered 26.8 million views, 2.3 million views, and more than 11,600 comments.
While the injury itself was not shown in the clip, its severity was displayed by how the Iowa man walked. His right leg worked just fine, but when he stepped with his left foot, his knee became displaced, causing him to skip instead of walk.
Still, Eileen’s uncle wanted to take care of business with his own hands. The clip shows him struggling to walk toward a telephone pole. In one hand, he was carrying a red rope. He tied one of its ends to his bad leg, wrapped the rope around the pole, and was ready to pull it. This is, of course, not very safe. At all.
That Worked?
Eileen knew that and told her uncle, “You sure you don’t want to call 911 instead?” The man, set on doing what he was about to do, shushed her.
The Iowa uncle, with heavy-duty work gloves on, began to pull the rope. To Eileen’s surprise, the rope method worked. However, her uncle wasn’t over. He needed to “keep it warm,” he said, so he grabbed a black skipping rope and began to jump in an impressive feat of athletics and recently dislocated kneecap resilience.
Finally, the clip showed him lifting and loading a massive wooden log into the back of his truck bed. A job well done.
Reactions
The video sparked many responses, mostly from viewers who were genuinely impressed by the man’s strength. One said, “Adding him to my apocalypse survival team.” Another one commented, “That knee is fighting for custody of that leg.”
Those in healthcare had mixed opinions. One wrote, “As an Orthopaedic Surgery resident, everything you did was great except for all of it.” Another one added, “The ortho nurse in me is THOROUGHLY impressed actually.”
At the very end of the clip, the Iowa man appeared to be limping a bit. Hopefully, he got his knee checked. Most likely, he didn’t, given his very unorthodox solution to a dislocation.
