The Spider-Verse was first introduced in the Spider-Man animated movies featuring Miles Morales as the main character. There are universes connected to each other with a web of life and destiny, and it seems like Insomniac Games’ Spidey is also a part of it. Here’s how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Verse animated movies are connected with Spider-Bots!
Spider-Bots Mystery in Spider-Man 2 Explained
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has many secrets and references; from people using Captain America’s shield as flying discs to recreating a scene in the Endgame battle where Thor overloaded Iron Man’s suit to shoot Thano
While you’re doing the main missions in the game, Ganke calls and tells you about some mysterious Spider-Bots around the city. These bots are sending signals to another dimension, and Ganke is trying to solve the mystery. There are 42 of these Spider-Bots in the game, which is a direct reference to Earth-42, where the Spider-Verse‘s Miles Morales is from. Now after you find all 42 bots across the map, a new cutscene will show up.
Ganke sends you a location of where the Spider-Bot’s signals are coming from. And once you’re there, a portal opens in the shape of those that we saw in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. A character named Delilah is on the other side of the portal, taking what you’ve achieved so far.
Who is Delilah in Spider-Man 2?
After the release of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, an art book of the movie was also published. In that art book, we see a character named Delilah, who was supposed to be in the movie. She is an assassin, serving as a bartender in a bar that is for the Spider-Verse‘s villains.
Now the weird thing is that Delilah shows up in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in a hexagon Spider-Verse-style portal, telling Peter or Miles that rouge Spider-Bots are not good to be around. She captures all the Spider-Bots from the player, and then says that if Miguel O’Hara came watching for these, tell him “Finders Keepers.”
Now it’s not known what Delilah wants to do with the Spider-Bots. But the mention of Miguel’s name is yet another connection between Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the Spider-Verse.
Across The Spider-Verse Connection Explained
Besides the Delilah and Spider-Bots easter eggs in the game, there’s also a reference to the Insomniac’s Spider-Man in Across The Spider-Verse movie. When Earth-42 Miles Morales gets to the Spider-Society‘s HQ, he sees many other Spider-People. Now among them is Peter Parker from Marvel’s Spider-Man games who only talks for one line only.
What’s confusing about this connection, however, is that if Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man is in the Spider-Society, how come he doesn’t know who Miguel O’Hara is in Spider-Man 2? When Delilah mentions Miguel’s name, Peter and Miles are confused in the game. This is while Miguel, AKA Spider-Man 2099, is the one who created the Spider-Society.
One solution for this possible plot hole is that maybe the story of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set before the events of Across The Spider-Verse. But this is just an opinion, and we’ll probably get more info on this matter by the release of Beyond The Spider-Verse movie next year.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently available to play on PlayStation 5.
