Most Call of Duty fans with fond memories of the original MW3 are understandably curious about the prospect of a new No Russian mission in Modern Warfare 3. It was actually confirmed to feature last year, but specific details have so far been thin. Now, following the release of MW3 early access, we have our answer.
Spoiler Alert! The following content contains spoilers for the Modern Warfare 3 story.
Does MW3 Have a No Russian Mission? Explained
Yes, there is a new No Russian mission in the Modern Warfare 3 campaign story. However, the mission itself is not specifically called No Russian. The Passenger is the name of the mission, and in it, you play as Samara, one of the old friends Farah who helped her liberate Urzikestan from Roman Barkov’s forces in Modern Warfare 2019.
The original No Russian mission tasked players to do the job of a CIA agent, being undercover to kill civilians beside Vladimir Makarov. This led to Makarov killing the CIA initiative, and leaving his body on the scene to blame the U.S. for killing Russian civilians. This is while No Russian is played differently in the Modern Warfare 3 Campaign story.
In MW3, you’ll see that Vladimir Makarov’s forces are trying to hijack a plane, but they won’t just kill people to take credit for this terror themselves. They find Samara a known soldier that was once under Farah’s command, and then they attach a bomb on her. This leads to the scene being like Samara is trying to explode the bomb inside the plane, and in the end, many people die in a disastrous happening.
Compared to MW2 2009’s No Russian mission, it’s much less brutal. However, it still shows how much of a villain Vladimir Makarov is, by killing their own people to start a new world war. Nonetheless, Makarov didn’t succeed with his No Russian plan in MW3. Farah wipes the data from the plane’s black box so that the governments are not fooled by the Konni Group’s master plan. Had Makarov succeeded, the Urzikestan forces would have been known to be terrorists once more, as we saw in Modern Warfare 2019.
