Dark and Darker is a unique PvPvE experience whether you’re traversing the dungeons alone or in a group. As a result, you might want to invite your friends to experience the thrill of the hunt together. Or maybe you just need some backup; after all, there is safety in numbers. Unfortunately, there’s a conundrum: your friends don’t have a PC and can you play Dark and Darker cross-play or cross-platform between different devices?
Does Dark and Darker Have Crossplay?
Currently, Dark and Darker is playable on three different PC platforms and features crossplay across all of them. Yes, that means players on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Blacksmith Launcher can team up or fight against each other. However, at the moment, cross-progression between PC storefronts has not yet been implemented, per Ironmace’s June blog post update.
For our players on Blacksmith who have already purchased the game and want to launch their account from another platform, we ask for your patience and continue playing on Blacksmith for just a little bit longer until [Platform Link] system is released. We feel strongly that our early adopters should not be required to re-purchase the game on another cross-play PC platform.
Dark and Darker official update news post
Speaking of platforms, Dark and Darker is also not available for consoles such as PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Nevertheless, Ironmace has shown interest in porting the fantasy extraction game to home gaming devices. On the other hand, there is still no certainty that the Dark and Darker team is planning cross-platform or crossplay between PC and console. The game is also still in the Early Access phase so it could take years before it fully launches on PC and then hits consoles.
For now, we can just wait and let the developer cook. Considering the ambition of the Dark and Darker developer team, there’s still hope that all platforms might be getting cross-play.
Dark and Darker is available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Blacksmith.
