Spider-Man 2 is a great game to play, and your hard work can go towards some impressive upgrades. In the previous title, you could start a New Game Plus and obtain trophies in a new save. Spider-Man 2 gives you a larger world to explore and you may replay the game with your new improvements.

Not every game has a New Game Plus; sometimes, game sequels can break the trend. Does Spider-Man 2 have a New Game Plus, or are you forced to replay your adventure from scratch every time?

Spider-Man 2 New Game Plus & Ultimate Difficulty

Unlike previous games, Spider-Man 2 does not have a New Game Plus. Once you beat the game and finish up all the activities, you don’t get to start again with everything. Your suits, upgrades and quest progress won’t carry over to another save where you can switch the difficulty. When you finish the game, there’s nothing else you can do.

Beating the game does give you a reward. You unlock Ultimate difficulty, which is a significantly harder experience. Enemy health, enemy damage, stealth awareness, and other settings are pushed to harder-than-hard levels. If you come from a Friendly Neighborhood difficulty, you will struggle with Ultimate difficulty.

You don’t gain your upgrades or suits in this difficulty, and you still have to start from scratch. But it does give you a challenge that would make any player push themselves. Every upgrade and move will be useful, forcing you to use every advantage available to you. Even boss fights like the Lizard will stump you, making you plan your moves carefully.

There are no trophies that are locked behind difficulty, meaning Ultimate difficulty is just a challenge. If you want to replay the game on a relaxing difficulty, you can still complete the game and get the Platinum trophy. Beating the game on Ultimate difficulty is just for bragging rights, and it doesn’t confer any benefits even if you complete it.

Fortunately, this means that you can play Spider-Man 2 on the easiest difficulty. You can’t carry over your progress, and there’s no penalty for playing on the easiest difficulty. It’s a good incentive to start from scratch and enjoy the game as you like. If you do want to challenge yourself with Ultimate difficulty, remember that it’s just a challenge. You don’t unlock anything by beating it.
